Position Title: Business & Client Services Director Reports to: Deputy Director FLSA Status: Exempt Location: Juneau, Alaska, or remote Southeast Alaska Salary: $90,000-$100,000 DOE Deadline to Apply: A first-round review of applications will be conducted after October 31, 2025. As a federally-certified Native CDFI, Spruce Root works to create positive change and equitable access to economic development through financial products and services to individuals in Southeast Alaska. Other programs include Path to Prosperity, Resilience Circles, workforce development, financial wellness, community planning and facilitation, and the administration of the Sustainable Southeast Partnership (SSP) and the Seacoast Trust. About the Business & Client Services program Spruce Root’s Business & Client Services (BCS) programs provide free and low-cost support to businesses and individuals through one-on-one coaching and cohort-based workshops. Programs include the Path to Prosperity business competition and annual award; Resilience Circles, a trauma-informed, culturally responsive program supporting Alaska Native entrepreneurs; workforce and career development initiatives; and financial wellness training for individuals and families. Job scope The Business and Client Services Director is responsible for leading the Business and Client Services (BCS) team to deliver all client development programs. The BCS Director is responsible for developing and executing program strategy, designing program curriculum and projects, tracking program progress and performance, preparing the program budget, securing funds, developing partnerships with clients, partners, and other similar organizations, and supporting and coaching Business and Client Services staff. Compensation: • Starting annual salary: $90,000 • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance as well as 401(k) retirement plan, a wellness program, personal leave, wellness leave, 12 weeks of sabbatical leave after five years of service, and professional development. Primary tasks and areas of responsibility • Lead external relationship-building and marketing efforts to grow consulting and client pipelines • Represent Spruce Root’s values and BCS programs in a variety of civic, public, and private forums and with a range of stakeholders and audiences • Coordinate with the Lending team to meet lending objectives and streamline efficiencies between BCS and lending • Develop strategy for BCS services to meet organizational goals and objectives • Design and facilitate retreats, events, meetings, and workgroups • Support BCS staff in project management, curriculum development, facilitation of training sessions, and other projects as the need arises • Manage the metrics and data collection system for BCS programming to track and report on the performance of BCS programs and initiatives • Work with and learn from partners in adjacent networks in Alaska and beyond who share a similar mission • Oversee the delivery of excellent customer service through BCS programs, including standardizing and improving client satisfaction • Lead fundraising efforts including identification of grant opportunities, grant writing, and reporting • Supervise direct reports and manage their recruitment, training, and coaching • Integrate BCS programs with other Spruce Root programs and services to advance our mission and vision Other duties as assigned Required knowledge, skills, and abilities • Ability to support and develop productive team members and manage a dynamic and high-performing team • Ability to lead, plan, organize, control, and administer projects • Expertise in business planning and budgeting • Ability to create localized curriculum, especially for entrepreneurs, members of the workforce, and individuals seeking to improve their financial wellbeing • Understanding of Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) products and services • Communication skills (written and oral) and ability to facilitate and speak in public settings • Understanding of financial statements and GAAP standards Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, external agencies, and philanthropic and impact investment partners • Knowledge of grant writing and administration • Ability to scope and write contracts and proposals • Ability to excel in a fast-paced and dynamic environment Required education and experience • Education in economic development, business, public, or nonprofit administration or a related field, or equivalent experience • Experience in leadership and management of highly collaborative projects and programs • Experience in curriculum development • Experience working for a CDFI or community development or mission-driven, non-profit capacity • Experience or training in working with small business owners and entrepreneurs, members of the workforce, and/or individuals seeking to improve their financial literacy • Experience in grant writing or other types of fundraising Additional Requirements • Valid driver’s license • Satisfactory completion of a background check • Satisfactory completion of a reference check Working conditions: • Standard 35-hour work week with occasional evening and weekend assignments • The physical and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, use hands to finger, handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bending or crouching; talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift/carry and/or move up to 30 pounds safely. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions and other elements prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
