Salary: $55,000 salary Job Summary: The Animal Care Supervisor supervises the Animal Care Team, including daily functions, scheduling adjustments, motivating, evaluating, coaching and training. This is a working supervisor position that requires varied shifts, weekends, and some holidays. Our Core Values: 1- Hell, Yeah! 2- Be Kind 3- Do What You Say 4- Forward Focused 5- Loose & Wiggly 6- Drop the Mic Responsibilities and Essential Functions: • Completes essential animal care tasks alongside the animal care team, including animal husbandry, enrichment and behavior modification, adopter meetings, volunteer and staff training, and animal transportation • Provides excellent customer service to all visitors, volunteers, and potential adopters • Responsible for delegation and maintaining efficient workflow throughout the day by overseeing completion of daily team tasks and scheduled breaks • Ensures the efficient flow of animals through the facilities by managing daily operations and transport • Works closely with leadership to ensure that appropriate capacity for care is maintained in all SPCA facilities where animals are housed • Works with staff to monitor the health and behavior of animals; recognizes and responds appropriately to animals with suspected illness • Works closely with other Operations teams to help create and support a cohesive and collaborative SPCA team environment • Helps ensure the safety of all employees, visitors and volunteers • Models Core Value-focused and appropriate behavior and interpersonal interactions with all staff and volunteers • Creates and supports a positive work environment for staff and volunteers by leading by example, holding team members accountable, and offering support and corrective action as needed • Identifies areas for improvement in animal care staff individual and team performance and provides coaching and adjustments to facilitate necessary changes • Oversees training and continued development of team members in conjunction with the Animal Care Manager • Maintains excellent communication with direct supervisor and the team; alerts direct supervisor to any potential concerns within the department • Provides guidance and intervenes as needed to resolve team, volunteer, and visitor concerns Required Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent • Experience in related field • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience • Must have a positive attitude and collaborative, team-oriented leadership style • Able to meet physical requirements of the job as described below • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills • High degree of professionalism and customer service • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills • Ability to work independently and lead others • Passion for the mission and commitment to exemplifying Core Values of the SPCA of Wake County • Must have respect for the human/animal bond and be committed to a Fear Free approach to animal welfare and care Physical Demands and Work Conditions: • Must be able to meet all physical requirements including: standing, walking, lifting (50 lbs) carrying (50 lbs), pushing (50 lbs), pulling (50 lbs), climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching overhead, handing, seeing, depth perception, and hearing • Able to work in environment with high noise level, foul odors, and fractious animals • Must be able to work in very cold and very hot temperatures, indoors and out • Will be exposed regularly (and required to use) cleaning chemicals, including bleach and other caustic disinfectants • Is likely to be exposed to parasites, viruses, bacteria, and fungi which could be zoonotic Benefits: • Medical and Dental: Employer pays 90% of employee coverage (full-time) • Insurance includes wellness, dental, vision, life, mental health care, prescriptions, emergency & urgent care, chiropractic care, and physical therapy • Telemedicine options, 24/7 access to virtual health & wellness care and virtual behavioral health care PAID TIME OFF • All part-time and full-time staff receive paid time off. • Paid Holidays - 9 paid holidays per year (full-time) • Vacation Time - 10 paid vacation days per year (full-time)with scheduled increases at milestone anniversaries of hire date • Sick Time - 6.5 paid sick days per year (full-time) FINANCIAL • Healthcare: Flexible Spending Account • 401k Plan • Coastal Federal Credit Union Membership • 20% discount on pet adoptions and in SPCA Wake retail store OTHER • Bereavement time off • Federal & State Leave of Absence options The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
