Overview Spathe is currently searching for a Accounting Manager to join our team in the Tampa, FL area. Spathe Systems is a rapidly growing SOF led, 8(a) defense contractor headquartered in Tampa, FL with offices in Fayetteville, NC and strategic partner locations in Virginia Beach and Coronado. As a small business with a tight knit family feel, Spathe empowers its employees to solve problems and make decisions. Responsibilities The Accounting Manager will oversee all accounting operations and ensure compliance with federal regulations applicable to defense contracting. This role is responsible for managing the company’s financial reporting, general ledger, cost accounting, and compliance with Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) requirements. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in government contract accounting, financial analysis, and team leadership within a fast-paced defense industry environment. Manage daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end close activities. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS). Oversee project cost accounting and contract billing processes for Cost-Plus, T&M, and Fixed-Price contracts. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including DCAA and DCMA reviews. Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure data integrity and regulatory compliance. Manage indirect rate calculations, allocations, and annual incurred cost submissions. Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support business decisions. Coordinate with executive leadership on financial strategy, compliance, and risk management. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred. Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management or supervisory role. Experience in government contracting and knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and DCAA compliance required. Proficiency with Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or similar ERP systems. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Must be a U.S. Citizen; active or eligible DoD security clearance preferred. Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience with a small-to-mid size defense contractor. Knowledge of service-based contracts (IT, logistics, engineering support, etc.). Experience preparing incurred cost submissions (ICS) and indirect rate structures. Familiarity with project accounting for OCONUS operations or subcontractor management. Job Type: Full Time Work Location: One location – Tampa, FL (HQ) Travel: Up to 10% travel during the year.
