POSITION SUMMARY This position will oversee operations and administration of a pathology laboratory with multiple technical and specialized departments, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and company standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES • Directs daily laboratory operations and establishes guidelines to prioritize workflow, assess effectiveness, and enhance service quality. • Coordinates personnel activities for specimen collection, testing, and analysis to provide diagnostic information to pathologists. • Manages recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and discipline of technical staff. • Delegates authority, resolves operational issues, and oversees scheduling to ensure timely completion of work. • Provides guidance, resources, and support to physicians, management, and staff. • Controls staffing levels and costs through analysis of staffing ratios, competencies, and needs. • Assists leadership in developing and executing short- and long-term operational plans to improve service quality. • Contributes to budget development and fiscal management, ensuring departmental and year-end goals are achieved. • Serves as liaison with billing, IT, and other departments to resolve operational issues. • Ensures timely resolution of environmental, biomedical, and facility-related issues. • Coordinates facility updates for new tests or expanded operations. • Maintains confidentiality and compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures. • Performs other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION • Bachelor of Science preferred. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE • CLIA/CAP regulations, quality assurance, and quality control standards. • Clinical laboratory policies, procedures, and performance evaluation methods. • Laboratory equipment operation, quality control monitoring, and purchasing evaluation. • Medical terminology for effective communication. • Safety protocols and hazard recognition. • English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. • Business operations including productivity analysis and scheduling. EXPERIENCE • Minimum six years of anatomical pathology experience in a managerial role within a large laboratory. SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Proficient in laboratory testing and instrumentation. • Skilled in computer systems and software applications. • Strong leadership, training, and personnel management abilities. • Capable of analyzing and presenting staffing, productivity, and cost data. • Effective workload management and scheduling skills. • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal abilities.
