## Key Role Overview This role supports patient care by collecting, processing, preparing, routing, and storing laboratory specimens, including performing phlebotomy. The Laboratory Assistant works in a clinical laboratory environment with biological hazards and PPE requirements, champions safety, compliance, and quality control, and helps ensure accurate specimen handling and routing for diagnostic testing. ## Key Responsibilities - Perform specimen collection (including phlebotomy), processing, preparation, routing, and storage to support the patient care and laboratory testing process. - Recognize when corrective action is needed and implement effective solutions to specimen or process issues. - Operate and monitor general laboratory equipment such as centrifuges and other routine instruments. - Use telephones, computers, and data entry systems to document specimens, communicate with staff, and route information as required. - Follow biosafety, PPE, safety, compliance, and quality control procedures in the laboratory environment. - Maintain accurate records and support timely, organized specimen flow within the Patient Service Center. - Adhere to confidentiality requirements when handling protected health information (PHI) and access PHI only as needed to fulfill job duties. ## Required Qualifications - High School Diploma or equivalent. - Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills. - Ability to operate general laboratory equipment, telephones, and computer systems; competent in data entry and using audible alarms/monitors. - Willingness to work in a laboratory environment with biological hazards and follow PPE and biosafety protocols. ## Preferred Qualifications - 1-2 years of related experience in a clinical laboratory, data entry, or production environment. ## Compensation & Benefits - Base hourly pay rate: $19.74 to $21.71 per hour. - Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance. - Paid Time Off and Paid Holidays. - 401(k) with company match. - Free lab services for employee and dependents. - Opportunities for professional growth, work-life balance, and a supportive workplace culture. ## Additional Information - Location: Hale Pawaa Patient Service Center, Honolulu, HI. - Status: Full-time; Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40; Days/Hours: TBD. - Work shift details to be determined; position may require routine onsite presence at the PSC. - This role provides routine access to protected health information (PHI); employees will be trained on safeguards and must maintain strict confidentiality and abide by applicable privacy and security standards. - Employer notes: member of Sonic Healthcare Ltd.; equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
