Full Description

About the Organization: Biking While Black (BWB) is a project of Social Good Fund (SGF), a 501(c)(3) organization. BWB is more than just a mode of transportation; it's a movement for mobility justice that celebrates the resilience, strength, and spirit of the Black community. It is a mobility justice movement that seeks to empower BIPOC bicyclists, dismantle systemic barriers, and reimagine a world where cycling is a source of joy, freedom, and safety for all. Through the power of storytelling, community engagement, and advocacy, Biking While Black is changing the narrative and transforming the cycling landscape. Overview of Role: This high-impact role as an Operations and Development Manager will be pivotal in many of the core functions of BWB, including, but not limited to, working closely with BWB’s leadership on activities supporting operations, internal processes/procedures, on-site events and film screenings, community engagement, and fundraising. This is a hybrid role (Remote and Downtown L.A.) that requires weekly in-person events and meeting attendance at different locations primarily in the Greater Los Angeles region, a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend availability, and the ability to work on a variety of projects, as well as working with leading social and environmental justice activists, planners and policy makers. BWB is currently a grassroots movement that is growing, and as such, will provide the right individual with a wealth of growth, learning, and professional development opportunities. This is a unique opportunity that will give an early-career nonprofit professional a front-row seat to advocacy, community engagement, and working with a prominent leader of the mobility justice movement. Required Qualities of Candidate: Exceptional interpersonal, problem-solving, social, and verbal/written communication skills. A commitment and enthusiasm for BWB’s mission, values, and work surrounding mobility justice issues and working directly with community members. Technologically savvy and proficient with Google Suite applications, Microsoft Office, Canva, social media channels, and AI applications. Quick learner of new applications. Extraordinary time management, project management, and organizational skills. Have a strong work ethic and the ability to be proactive, responsive, and adaptable in a fast-changing, dynamic environment. Ability to work independently remotely as well as collaborate effectively in-person with the Director, vendors, community members, and stakeholders. Comfortable working in a physically active role in a variety of settings, including large outdoor venues and biking events, meeting spaces of various sizes, churches, theaters, conference rooms, etc. Will have a demonstrated ability to work well with people of diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, socioeconomic demographics, ages, and cultures. Dedication and/or lived experience working in community engagement, advocacy, justice movements, or community organizing. Deep-rooted understanding (lived experience) of why it is important to advance the work around transportation equity and justice-based work. Duties & Responsibilities: Operations Support o Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and lead initiatives to streamline processes, reduce costs, and enhance productivity. o Oversee and coordinate the administrative components of agreements between BWB and independent contractors, vendors, and other non-profit organizations (i.e., fee-for-service agreements). o Supporting BWB’s strategic planning and annual work planning o Coordinate with the Director on initiating and follow-up on communications with fiscal sponsor, consultants, and other stakeholders on various projects as indicated by the Director o Coordinate scheduling, manage logistics and administrative reporting, ensure follow-through on key priorities, and provide high-level support to the Director. o Manage complex calendars, coordinate multiple project workflows, and organize executive outreach and internal and external communications. o Develop presentations, flyers, brochures, and other materials as needed. o Research and assemble in advance relevant information for events, meetings, correspondence, and reports. o Upholding work processes and developing, proposing, and collaboratively implementing strategies for improved organizational workflow. o Other duties as assigned Fundraising & Reporting Support o Actively identify and share potential grant, major donor and/or contract opportunities that align with BWB’s mission and activities, bringing ideas to the Director for consideration. o Conduct prospect research on individuals, funding agencies, corporations, and foundations that the Director has identified for further analysis. o Support the Director’s accurate and timely delivery of grant and contract reporting through review of grant agreements, noting pertinent information, calendaring, tracking, data collection, and maintenance of records. o Support e-campaigns, mailings, on-site fundraising activities, raffles, event auctions, in-kind donation solicitation, and other donation-related tasks as guided by the Director. Event Coordination & Participation o Support management of BWB event logistics, including coordinating with the Events consultant, scheduling, securing locations, participant outreach, and post-event follow-up. o Perform physical tasks, including lifting event materials, loading and unloading supplies, and supporting set-up/breakdown (tables, tents, signage, etc.) o Supervise and support a small group of volunteers throughout the event o Represent BWB at public events, screenings, conferences, tabling, and interagency collaborations. o Participates in special projects and event-related errands, as needed. o Support the creation and posting of social media content and the distribution of outreach materials related to events. o Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison for event volunteers and contractors.
