Sr. Mechanical Engineer Smith Engineering is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team in the New York Metro area. You will split your time between our Manhattan office and various customer sites. For more than a dozen years, we have been a leader in central plant design and optimization, building a reputation for discovering and solving facility mysteries, and improving central plant operations. Our design, energy, controls and workforce training teams offers a joined-up service to industry-leading clients in the metro region, across the country and internationally. Your Role We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design large-scale, critical facility cooling systems, including performing calculations, selecting equipment, developing contract documents and coordinating with clients, vendors, contractors and other engineers. Responsibilities: • Technical Design: Design analyze, inspect, perform field testing, and troubleshoot central energy plant systems to deliver high performing results to your clients • Coordination: Collaborate with clients, architects, electrical engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless integration, ensuring all project requirements are met. • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure designs adhere to Smith Engineering standards and comply with building codes and standards; Assist in the production of construction documents, including specifications. • Client Relations: Build and maintain strong client relationships through direct communication, by presenting design options and progress reports, and by providing excellent client service. Qualifications: • Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline followed by 4-7 years of experience working with HVAC projects including central utility plants • Experience performing all engineering calculations necessary for the development of hvac and central plant systems. • Proficient in developing designs and drawings with 3D modeling software. • Ability to navigate a mechanical room and perform field surveys of piping systems • Working knowledge of DOB Now and NYC Department of Buildings processes and requirements • Experience assisting with construction administration and project management • Outstanding communication skills, verbal and written, along with troubleshooting and problem solving-skills • Technical expertise in basic building systems knowledge Must be located within 50 miles of New York City.
