The Clinical AI Data Specialist is responsible for generating high-quality clinical examples and labels for machine learning model evaluation and training. This includes providing clinical expertise for various AI applications and collaborating on data labeling software design.
Candidates must have clinical practice experience and the ability to work directly with physicians in patient care. Basic technical skills in Python and prompt engineering are also required, along with a desire to learn new technical skills.
Role The Clinical AI Data Specialist (CADS) is a role that lives with the Machine Learning Research Science (MLRS) team. The CADS is responsible for generating high quality clinical examples and labels for the evaluation and training of machine learning models. For example, accessing the clinical validity of diagnosis findings or evaluating the generation of progress notes informed by prebill’s CDI predictions. This role blends clinical expertise with data innovation: unlike clinical ops, it focuses on designing and scaling labeling with software and AI, and unlike data science roles, it requires direct patient-facing experience as the core skillset. Learn more at smarterdx.com/careers. **This role is fully remote within the US** What You'll Do Provide clinical expertise to build an evaluation dataset measuring generative AI hallucinations in various products: appeal letter writing, clinical evidence summarization, physician progress note generation and medical question answering Provide clinical expertise to build a reward modeling (aka preference modeling) dataset for good appeal letter writing, clinical evidence summarization, physician progress note generation and medical question answering Collaborate in the designing, testing, iterating of data labeling & annotation software Leverage AI/ML to improve quality and efficiency of medical data labeling & annotation Learn basic technical skills to provide statistics on our data, ie using Hex and matplotlib What You Bring Clinical practice experience working with physicians to provide healthcare to patients on-site Basic prompt engineering skills: ability to use frontier APIs (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc) to help them with basic python skills and prototyping. Basic python skills or the ability to use frontier APIs to allow them that capability: ability to manipulate data in csv files, sql, and calculate prediction accuracy, sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value. Relevant degrees are: MD, DO, MBBS/MBChB, NP, PA, PharmD, RN, RPh, RHIA/RHIT, CCS, Healthcare Administration. Regardless of degree, experience actually working on-site in clinical settings, directly collaborating with physicians in patient care is a must. A PhD in public health without bedside experience wouldn't meet this requirement but an NP or PA who's been in the inpatient trenches would. Desire and capacity to learn new technical skills such as software development skills machine learning and data science to help us test and design new software built by others.
