• ** U.S. Citizenship Required *** We’re looking for a hands-on, inventive engineer who’s passionate about exploring how large language models (LLMs) can assist with structuring, aligning, and reasoning over complex systems data. In this role, you’ll experiment with LLMs to interpret and organize technical information - such as Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and system models - into deterministic, machine-readable formats. You’ll work at the intersection of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and applied AI, developing software tools and workflows that help humans and machines understand each other more effectively. Core Responsibilities • Explore how AI can assist in parsing and reusing existing data models and ICDs. • Prototype and implement software solutions that use LLMs to process, align, or translate structured technical data. • Work with academic researchers to leverage statistical values used within LLMs to assess and improve results. • Analyze relationships and similarities across data structures and propose approaches for automated model alignment. • Integrate AI tools into deterministic workflows - ensuring repeatable, auditable results. • Collaborate with systems and software engineers to validate AI-assisted outputs against known specifications. • Document findings, share lessons learned, and help evolve Skayl’s approach to AI-assisted system integration. Qualifications • Proficient in one or more programming languages (familiarity with REST APIs, data formats like XML/JSON, and model-based data structures). • Working knowledge of LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar APIs) and experience with prompt design or AI experimentation. • Familiarity with systems engineering concepts, including ICDs, schema-based data, or MBSE tools. • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills - unafraid to try, fail, and iterate. • Experience in the defense or aerospace domain is a plus.
