Signal Metal Industries is a well-established steel fabrication and machining company that manufactures large steel products for various heavy industries throughout the country. We do traditional job shop work and also perform production work for other large manufacturers in the USA. All applicants are required to take a Pre-Employment Forklift Test at our corporate headquarters located in Irving, TX. The Signal Metal Pre-Employment Forklift Test consists of applicants showing their ability to safely operate a diesel powered heavy forklift. Our testers will guide you through each part of the testing process which will require you to pick up, move, set down, and flip over various types of products. You will be asked to handle pallets, raw steel plates, and structural steel shapes. Position Summary: A Heavy Forklift Operator operates a 36,000 lb industrial forklift equipped to move materials around warehouse, storage yard, factory, construction site, or similar location and on/off machine tools while following all safety guidelines. Also assists in plant operations including production, grinding, torch cutting, part preparation and machine operations. Operator is also responsible for loading and unloading plate material on/off cutting tables. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Uses a 36,000 lb heavy forklift to move various sizes of steel plates and material. • Assists with cutting table, machine operators, and other personnel in loading/unloading, transporting, in-process, and finished materials throughout the plant. • Uses other heavy equipment to move various sizes of steel plates and material. • Load inventory items on company vehicles for shipment out of the yard. • Moves in-process and finished material to appropriate area in yard. • Inventory Document Control. • Preforms safety routine inspections prior to operating all equipment. • Abides by all safety standards and policies including use of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). • Maintains work area in clean and hazard-free condition • Employee will be required to assist with other general assignments/tasks, as requested by supervisors. • Qualified individuals should be able to read and understand company safety policies and programs. • Must be able to follow instructions of the shift supervisor, or other designated personnel, and work within a team environment. • Capable of resizing material with correct measurement for reallocation with the use of a tape measure or other measuring equipment. • Strong experience with inventory document control is a must. • Ability to interact with various internal contacts to manage the flow of work. • Must have a minimum of 3 year of HEAVY FORKLIFT EXPERIENCE in various heavy-manufacturing/industrial environment. • Experience using 15 ton or large forklifts is preferred. Physical Requirements: • Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner. This job requires the ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, metatarsal boots, hearing protection and other required PPE equipment. • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach around all areas of equipment. • Lift up to 50lbs. • The employee individual will also be required to regularly move around on the jobsite, or positioning themselves appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment they are sometimes required to do so in work in varied environments (in all weather conditions heat, cold, wet, humid, dry and/or dusty conditions.) • Read, comprehend and complete basic checklists, forms or other related documents. • Must be willing to work overtime as required. • Must be a reliable team member and safety orientated.
