Full Description

About Us: Siftwell Analytics is a fast-growing company that combines healthcare operator expertise and artificial intelligence to equip community health plans with better insights to drive earlier and more precise health interventions for members. Siftwell was founded with a fundamental commitment to address the unique challenges faced by community health organizations, beginning with Medicaid, Marketplace, and Medicare plans, who are entrusted with the care of our most vulnerable and complex populations. At Siftwell, we are committed to providing a mutually respectful work environment. We believe diversity and inclusion among our teammates are critical to our success. We seek to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented professionals from a diverse candidate pool, and we work to enable a culture in which all talented individuals can develop, have fun, and thrive. About the role: As a Principal Engineer (Full-Stack), you will design, build, and scale the technology that powers Siftwell’s platform, driving architecture, development, and delivery of high-impact, data-driven healthcare applications. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will balance strategic technical decisions with hands-on engineering, spending the majority of your time building, coding, and deploying alongside the team to ensure our products are reliable, scalable, and built for long-term success. You will serve as Siftwell’s hands-on engineering lead, owning the full application stack and guiding all aspects of software design, build, and delivery. Partnering closely with Product, Data Science, and Customer Success, you’ll translate complex ideas into scalable, production-ready solutions. Your experience building full web applications end to end, from infrastructure to front end, will inform key architectural decisions and ensure Siftwell’s technology scales reliably as we grow. As Siftwell builds an AI-enabled analytics platform, this role will apply modern development and automation tools to accelerate delivery and maintain quality, adopting technologies that improve speed, reliability, and cost efficiency within a regulated environment. You’ll thrive here if you enjoy solving complex problems, approach AI-assisted development with curiosity and pragmatism, and foster collaboration across disciplines while building systems in a fast-moving environment. As Siftwell continues to grow, this position will play a key part in shaping the foundation and practices of an expanding engineering team. This position is remote within the United States and may require limited travel for team collaboration and planning sessions. The role operates on East Coast (U.S.) hours to ensure alignment with client and team schedules. All new hires are subject to a one-time drug screening in accordance with Siftwell’s PHI compliance policies. Responsibilities: • Own Siftwell’s engineering function, serving as both strategic lead and hands-on builder across backend, middleware, and frontend systems. • Define and evolve the technical architecture and roadmap in partnership with the CTO and VP of Data Science & Strategy, ensuring scalable, secure, and modern systems that support business growth. • Design, build, and maintain full-stack applications from architecture to deployment using modern frameworks and best practices. • Scale and evolve Siftwell’s production systems to meet growing customer and business needs, driving measurable impact through resilient architecture. • Contribute directly to codebase development while guiding engineering best practices and standards. • Lead adoption of modern engineering and AI-assisted development tools to improve delivery speed, reliability, and scalability while ensuring compliance and security. • Guide platform, infrastructure, and DevOps decisions across AWS, data storage, networking, and deployment, partnering with the tech team to meet InfoSec, compliance, and reliability goals. • Partner with the data science team to operationalize models, pipelines, and analytics into production-ready systems. • Collaborate with product and compliance leaders to translate business and regulatory needs into elegant, maintainable engineering solutions. • Implement and enforce best practices in code quality, testing, CI/CD, and security aligned with HITRUST, SOC 2 and HIPAA standards. • Shape and communicate Siftwell’s engineering strategy and technical point of view, providing clear technical direction and rationale to leadership and cross-functional teams. • Foster a high-performance, collaborative engineering culture, mentoring others and setting the foundation for a scalable, world-class team. Requirements: Required • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 8 years of progressive experience in software engineering, with a focus on full-stack development and system architecture. • Demonstrated experience leading design, build, and delivery of enterprise web applications from end to end. • Hands-on expertise across full-stack development, data engineering, and DevOps, ideally within a small or fast-moving startup environment. • Demonstrated experience architecting and delivering a full production system or platform from concept through launch. • Proven ability to design and maintain scalable systems in AWS ecosystems, including S3, RDS, EC2, ECS/ECR, and Elastic Beanstalk. • Familiarity with AI-enabled engineering practices (e.g., automated testing, code generation, or intelligent monitoring) in SaaS or data-driven environments, including experience with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and Droid/Factory.ai. • Track record of building and launching innovative products that balance technical excellence with business needs. • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred • Experience in healthcare technology or analytics (payer, population health, digital health, or health data environments). • Familiarity with healthcare data standards and privacy regulations (HIPAA, HITRUST, PHI) and how they inform secure application design. • Prior experience in a principal or founding engineer capacity at an early-stage or growth-stage company.
