Shift5 is redefining the future of onboard operational technology (OT). As a fast-growing scale-up, we specialize in cutting-edge cybersecurity, predictive maintenance, and compliance for OT systems across defense, aerospace, and rail. We are a team of passionate, innovative professionals who thrive in a collaborative environment, driven by a shared mission to revolutionize how fleets operate. By unlocking and democratizing the vast potential of onboard OT data, we help our customers’ fleets run smarter, safer, and more efficiently. Ready to be part of the next frontier in transportation and critical infrastructure? Come join us. Our Values: Mission First Mindset: We exist to protect the service members who defend our nation and secure the critical systems that keep our economy moving. Relentless Innovation: We are motivated by the challenge of solving the toughest problems facing transportation and defense industries. Data Driven Decisions: We make decisions rooted in data. Giving our team and stakeholders a more informed perspective possible when lives and missions are on the line. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Integration Engineer to join our team, focusing on the development, integration, and certification of complex avionics and weapon systems. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between design engineering and implementation, ensuring successful system deployment from concept through operational test. What You'll Do: System Analysis and Design: Perform detailed vehicle system analysis and trade studies to define integration requirements and ensure compatibility with existing platforms (e.g., electrical power, cooling, space, weight). Contribute to system architecture and detailed cable harness design specifications, including selecting components, defining routing, and creating installation procedures. Integration and Installation: Interpret and apply engineering data, including avionics wiring schematics (e.g., block diagrams, interconnect diagrams) and mechanical drawings to plan and execute system installations. Execute the installation of hardware on aircraft and other weapon systems, including rack mounting, cable routing, termination, and securing components per military and industry standards. Testing and Validation: Develop, execute, and document test plans and procedures to perform system testing (e.g., functional, environmental, EMI/EMC) on integrated hardware and software. Troubleshoot complex system anomalies, isolate root causes in hardware or wiring, and implement corrective actions. Documentation and Compliance: Draft, provide input, and maintain technical documentation, including detailed technical reports, integration plans, and risk management and planning documents (e.g., hazard analysis, FMECA). Apply a strong understanding of government certification processes (e.g., FAA, military airworthiness standards like MIL-HDBK-516) to ensure all design and installation activities meet regulatory compliance. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems engineering, integration, or design within the aerospace or defense industry. Proven ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot complex avionics wiring schematics and mechanical drawings. Experience with cable harness design tools. Hands-on experience with hardware installation on aircraft, including knowledge of proper tooling, crimping, soldering, and wire harness assembly techniques. Familiarity with airworthiness certification processes and standards (e.g., DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461). Familiarity with DoD systems integration processes (e.g., acquisition phases, milestones, technical reviews) and proven comfort/experience interfacing with DoD systems engineers, technicians, and maintainers. Familiarity with serial communications protocols (ARINC-429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN). Active Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one. Travel: Be comfortable with up to 40-75% travel within the U.S. to customer sites. Familiarity with flight test instrumentation and data acquisition systems. Compensation & Benefits: Base Salary: $100,000-$200,000 Bonus program and equity in a fast-growing startup Competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their families Health Savings Account with annual employer contributions Employer-paid Life and Disability Insurance Uncapped paid time off policy Flexible work & remote work policy Tax-deferred public transit benefits with Metro SmartBenefits (DC/MD/VA) We are committed to building an inclusive culture of belonging that embraces the diversity of our people and represents the communities in which we work and the customers we serve.
