Multiple years of demonstrated experience leading communications teams, strong writing and editing skills, and ability to manage diverse policy issues in a fast-paced environment.
Colorado Senator John Hickenlooper-a laid off geologist turned brewpub owner turned elected official- seeks a Communications Director based in Washington DC. Ideal applicants are detail-oriented, able to handle numerous policy issues in a fast-paced media environment, and have extensive experience managing a team. They should have experience overseeing a strong digital content operation, and be an excellent and fast writer and editor. Responsibilities include: • Overseeing all communications, press, and creative functions in the office, including creation of messaging priorities, execution of communications plans, briefing, staffing, and advising the Senator • Identifying press and speaking engagements, collaborating with policy and state staff, and editing communications content • Coordinating interviews with national and local reporters, managing relationships with media outlets, and providing on-the-record comment when needed As a team, we take the job seriously but not ourselves and are looking for similarly humble-minded teammates who are hungry to roll up their sleeves and get to work on issues that impact Coloradans.
