Full Description

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is hiring a Director of Communications to join his senior staff. The strongest candidates will have at least six years of experience in communications or public relations and will have exceptional writing, media management and strategic skills. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated a strong commitment to Sen. Sanders’ policy priorities, be highly detail-oriented, be able to coordinate numerous progressive policy issues in a fast-paced media environment, have meaningful personnel management experience, exercise good political judgement and be a fast, dynamic and seasoned writer and editor. The Director of Communications is responsible for overseeing all communications, press and creative functions in the office, including the execution of communications plans; briefing and staffing the Senator; pitching stories; collaborating with policy staff; and editing communications content. The Director will also help coordinate interviews with national and local reporters, manage relationships with media outlets and provide on-the-record comment when appropriate. This is a management-level position and is not a junior-level position. This role is expected to travel with the Senator and be able to work in a rapid-response environment requiring odd working hours.
