In addition to their teaching assignments, all teaching faculty are expected to contribute to the life of the school community in general. Schools of the Sacred Heart is committed to an in-person teaching model and faculty must be prepared to adhere to and support our Health and Safety Plan. Purpose: The primary purpose of the Theater Programs Director is to direct and facilitate all after school theater productions (5th-12th) –maximizing the learning potential of every student in your care. Our community is part of an international network of Sacred Heart schools, where students and adults embrace the catholic charism of our Sacred Heart founders, which is spiritually inclusive and global in nature.The school is organized into four academic divisions, each led by a Division Head, sharing resources and a central administration, all of which is under the direction of the President Characteristics/Qualities: The following qualities/characteristics are expected of every Sacred Heart Educator: Collaborative Accountable Approachable Reflective Positive Innovative Flexible Enthusiastic Patient Organized Collegial ​​​​​​Duties/Responsibilities: Produce and direct a high school fall play, a winter middle and high school musical, a spring middle school play, and supervise/facilitate one additional theater workshop for high school students. Openness and enthusiasm when giving and receiving feedback. Is knowledgeable of grade level curriculum/demonstrates subject-area expertise Implement effective rehearsal management techniques and strategies Demonstrate awareness/sensitivity to varying needs of student learning. Collaborate and coordinate with the Performing Arts Department Chair (Music Director), Technical Director, and Choreographer (as necessary) for each production. Coordinate with and maximize in-house resources in conjunction with the Technical Director for lighting, set design,props, and costumes (when applicable). Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding rehearsal and show times and as well as rehearsal expectations. In conjunction with the Performing Arts Department Chair, plan the theater season, create and maintain rehearsal and production schedules that include all necessary elements for an effective show. Communicate appropriately and effectively with colleagues. Attend/participate in required faculty/grade level team meetings and school events. Implement effective rehearsal management techniques and strategies Organize and maintain the appearance of space. Maintain appropriate supervision of students as assigned. Foster a productive learning environment. Embrace and model the mission of our Sacred Heart schools as articulated in the five Goals Other Responsibilities may include: Lunch/Recess duty Morning Traffic duty Substitute Teaching Afternoon dismissal duty Active participation on school committees Continued professional development Attendance at faculty/department meetings Participation/leadership at community service events/retreats Facilitation/leadership for a weekend or weekday theater related trip Qualifications To be considered candidates should submit a resume and cover letter displaying their qualifications in the following areas: BFA or BA degree in theater MFA or MA in theater/directing or relevant equivalent experience. Knowledgeable, flexible, and passionate instructor in the area of theater arts. Up-to-date with the current climate of the theater industry. Prior directing and acting experience is required, preferably in youth theater settings. Social and emotional acuity for pre-teens and teenagers. Availability during afternoons, early evenings, and occasional weekends is a must. Excellent writing, communication, and grammar skills. Flexibility in working with a two campus K-12 institution with many operational needs Requires demonstrated and direct experience using a wide range of instructional technology tools including iPads, laptops, and Google Apps. Must be detail-oriented, organized and willing to take initiative. Must have excellent teamwork skills and collaboration with parents is a plus. Requires the ability to work well with children and adults. Must be a role model in embracing and living out the Schools’ mission, goals and criteria. Experience with independent schools is strongly preferred. Service Period: Faculty Orientation through Commencement. Physical Requirements Regularly lifting or carrying 1-20 lbs. Regular pushing/pulling/bending/stooping/kneeling Regularly climbing stairs** Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours Requires physical presence, work to be performed on campus** Requires the ability to tolerate and work in a loud and active environment** Ability to travel 1-2 times per year. Ability to work some evenings and weekends. ** Denotes essential functions of the position Salary commensurate with educational qualifications and teaching experience.
