Description: Join the Safeway team as a Produce Manager, where you will serve as the leader of our freshest department. In this role, you are more than just a supervisor; you are responsible for cultivating a vibrant shopping experience that highlights quality, freshness, and variety. We are looking for a hands-on leader who can drive sales through creative merchandising while mentoring a dedicated team. Qualifications: • Previous experience in retail produce operations, including knowledge of product variety, seasonality, and quality standards. • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to hire, train, motivate, and manage a diverse team. • Strong understanding of business financials, including Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, inventory control, and labor budgeting. • Excellent interpersonal skills to handle customer relations and resolve conflict effectively. • Physical stamina to frequently lift and maneuver objects up to 75 lbs, climb ladders, and stand for the duration of the shift. • Comfortable working in varying temperatures, including wet/cold environments (coolers) and using safety cutters/knives. • Proficiency with computer systems for ordering, scheduling, and reporting. • Flexibility to work a retail schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Responsibilities: • Direct the daily operations of the department to maximize sales, minimize shrink (waste), and achieve profitability goals. • Champion exceptional customer service by engaging with shoppers, offering product suggestions, and resolving complaints with a positive attitude. • Oversee personnel management, including writing schedules to ensure coverage, conducting performance reviews, and administering disciplinary action when necessary. • Design and implement eye-catching seasonal displays and ensure all products are signed and merchandised according to company schematics. • Maintain rigorous standards for freshness by rotating stock, culling outdated items, and strictly adhering to sanitation and food safety logs. • Manage inventory levels through accurate ordering, receiving, and daily inspections of the sales floor and coolers. • Perform hands-on duties such as trimming, crisping, watering, and stocking produce to maintain a full and appealing look. • Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local health regulations as well as company safety policies. • Analyze department metrics and competitor pricing to make informed business decisions.
