As a Home Health Coder, you will play a key role in ensuring our patients receive the right care by accurately reviewing and assigning ICD-10-CM codes. Responsibilities • Review OASIS assessments, clinician documentation, and other medical record components to assign accurate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes. • Ensure coding supports each patient’s plan of care and aligns with CMS guidelines, coding conventions, and home health regulations. • Collaborate with clinicians to clarify documentation when needed. • Monitor and resolve coding edits or rejections in partnership with billing and clinical staff. • Maintain productivity and quality standards according to department expectations. • Participate in audits, education sessions, and quality improvement initiatives. • Stay current with coding guidelines, CMS updates, and regulatory changes affecting home health. Qualifications Required Qualifications • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, or a related field. • Active credential from AAPC (e.g., CPC, CRC) or AHIMA (e.g., CCS, RHIT, RHIA). • At least 2 years of ICD-10-CM coding experience in home health or post-acute care. • Strong knowledge of OASIS documentation, PDGM, and CMS home health regulations. • Familiarity with coding software and EMRs such as Axxess and Home Health Notify. • High attention to detail with the ability to work independently and accurately. Desired Qualifications • Advanced degree (Master’s) in Health Information Management or a related field. • Experience coding under PDGM. • Knowledge of home health quality metrics and reimbursement processes. • Prior experience in an office-based or productivity-driven environment. Modes of Work This position is office-based at our Farmington Hills location. Work agreements are subject to review annually and may be adjusted based on agency needs. Background Screening Safe Hands Home Health Care & Hospice conducts background screenings on all candidates through the Michigan LARA system upon acceptance of a contingent offer. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Application Deadline Job postings remain active for a minimum of 15 calendar days.
