Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (“SABA”) is a non-profit organization dedicated to making our region a safer, healthier, and friendlier place to ride a bike, whether for commuting, recreation, or exercise, for everyone, regardless of race, income, or ability. SABA is seeking a full-time Executive Director ready to use their experience and passion to move SABA forward. The Executive Director will develop organizational strategy, build trust with the community, advocate for effective policies, and oversee the work of internal team members. The Greater Sacramento region is going through an active transportation transformation, and this moment calls for bold leadership. The community looks to SABA to lead, and this role is central in shaping how people move, connect, and thrive across neighborhoods safely. The Executive Director partners with SABA’s Board of Directors and staff to champion our mission, values, and community relationships. The Executive Director must be comfortable thinking at a high level, coaching staff, and other partners in implementing on-the-ground solutions and serving as the public representative of the organization to public officials and the media. The position includes the following general responsibilities: Organizational Development and Management • Oversee SABA’s day-to-day operations. • Lead the implementation of SABA’s strategic plan and programs. • Recruit, mentor, and manage staff and volunteers to foster a high-performing, mission-aligned team. Strategic Development and Policy • Lead and align SABA’s strategic plan, programs, and funding priorities to advance the organization’s mission. • Work with the Board to develop long-term policy, fundraising strategy, and community visibility. • Maintain working knowledge of current trends and issues impacting the development of safe streets and other active transportation concerns. Fundraising and Business Development • Research, identify, and pursue sources of funding, including sustaining major donations, grants, and contracts to support existing programs and to ensure the financial health of SABA. • Lead SABA’s Fundraising Committee to develop and execute annual fundraising goals. • Oversee grant strategy and reporting to ensure transparency, compliance, and alignment with program goals. • Develop and oversee community outreach to increase membership. Budget and Contract Management • Lead the planning, development, and administration of SABA’s annual budget, consistent with strategic and operational plans. • Submit proposed annual budgets and oversee the preparation of accurate monthly financial statements for Board review and approval. Public, Media, and Governmental Relations • Enhance SABA’s public image by being active and visible in the community and by engaging with strategic partner individuals and organizations. • Collaborate with SABA’s communications team to uplift our work and advocacy through our website, social media, member communications, and other promotional materials. • Build partnerships with community-based organizations and underrepresented groups to ensure SABA’s work reflects and serves all riders. • Cultivate and maintain relationships with elected officials, policy makers, and local government decision makers to promote and advance SABA’s goals and vision. Requirements The ideal candidate is required to have a passion for cycling as a viable mode of transportation and a demonstrated expertise in non-profit and/or business management, including, but not limited to, skills in organizational structure and advocacy, operations, and finance. The Executive Director is occasionally required to work evenings and weekends. In addition, the ideal candidate should possess: • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in transportation advocacy and within the organization. • Bachelor's degree in business, public, or nonprofit management (or a related field); or have a career of comparable professional experience. • Minimum of 5 years of experience with non-profits or working knowledge of active transportation advocacy, with at least 2 years in a leadership role within a non-profit organization committed to cycling, walking, or other alternative transportation modes. • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization. • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a collaborative high-performing staff. • Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing and business development strategies. Salary Range: $70,000 to $80,000 per annum with consideration of a discretionary year-end bonus taking into consideration job performance and fundraising success.
