The SME will be responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, and security of server, storage, and cloud systems supporting critical national missions. This role requires deep expertise in virtualization, cloud computing, data center design, system administration, and DoD-specific security and compliance protocols. Key Responsibilities Responsibility Description System Architecture & Design Lead the design, planning, and implementation of robust, scalable, and secure system architectures, including virtualized (VMware), hyper-converged (HCI), and cloud environments (AWS/Azure). Infrastructure Modernization Evaluate existing enterprise infrastructure for performance bottlenecks, conduct capacity planning, and lead modernization initiatives to optimize resource utilization, enhance capabilities, and reduce operational costs. Security & Compliance Ensure all system components, configurations, and software deployments comply with DoD directives, DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and other relevant security policies. Implement and manage zero-trust architectures. Advanced Troubleshooting Serve as the final escalation point for complex and persistent system, storage, and virtualization issues, providing expert-level diagnostics and resolution. Technology Evaluation Research, evaluate, test, and recommend new technologies and solutions, such as enterprise monitoring tools and cloud services, to enhance performance, security, and mission capability. Mentorship & Guidance Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level system engineers, fostering skill development and ensuring adherence to best practices across the team. Qualifications & Requirements Required Experience: Minimum of 15+ years of experience in system engineering and administration, with at least 7 years in a senior or architectural role within a large enterprise or DoD environment. Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II or III compliant (e.g., Security+ CE, CASP+ CE, CISSP). Expertise: Proven experience with enterprise virtualization platforms, specifically VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), vSphere, NSX, and Aria Suite (vRA, vROps). Expert-level knowledge of Windows and Linux Server operating systems, Active Directory, and Group Policy Management. Extensive experience with enterprise storage solutions (e.g., EMC, NetApp) and storage area networks (SAN). Hands-on experience applying DISA STIGs, conducting vulnerability remediation, and using security tools (e.g., HBSS, Retina, SCCM). Preferred Experience: Direct experience with USACE or other Army enterprise environments (JSP, DISA). Certifications: Professional or expert-level certifications in virtualization (e.g., VMware VCP/VCAP), cloud (AWS/Azure), or specific hardware (e.g., Nutanix NPP, Dell EMC). Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Software-Defined Networking (SDN), hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI), DoD cloud environments (GovCloud, C2S), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
