Job Description What is the opportunity? As a Senior Advisor, Global Mobility Tax, you will be an integral part of the Global Mobility Centre of Expertise and report to the Senior Manager, Global Mobility Tax. You will work with the team to oversee responsibility for mobile tax advisory and compliance support resulting from RBC’s various global mobility programs, including but not limited to International Transfer and Temporary Expatriate Assignment Program as well as Short-Term Business Traveler Program. Combining your subject matter expertise in employer and employee income tax compliance with our team and external partners’ (Tax, Immigration & RMC) engagement, you will facilitate delivery of an exceptional experience for all stakeholders – employees, management and HR – through cost efficient, compliance-focused, industry-leading programs. This work encompasses all RBC business platforms and covers global employee mobility in and out of our global locations with a focus on business travel into Canada, UK and the US, as well as US interstate travelers and international expats in North America, South America, Europe, United Kingdom, and APAC. What will you do? • Serve as an employee-facing, internal advisor and subject matter expert (SME) to our employees on unique global expat compensation reporting, including but not limited to tax and social security compliance implications, as well as net pay impact arising from various mobility programs (e.g. transfers, equalized assignments, business travelers). • Lead monthly global expat compensation collection process and expatriate payroll operations through the support of external vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure timely payment to employees and safeguard employer payroll compliance. • Utilize your understanding of cross-border, cross-state, and international mobility income tax (employer and employee) knowledge to provide a high level of employee and HR support and engagement in the tax process throughout the year and at year end. • Work closely with our tax services provider and our employees to ensure a timely and seamless tax filing process (process may include, but are not limited to, identifying employees eligible for tax services, obtaining tax ID’s, timely filings, application of tax deduction waivers and foreign tax credits, etc.). • Actively manage tax advances, collections of tax refunds and tax equalization settlements and ensure ledger accuracy and timely financial reporting. • Work with tax and travel services providers to support operations of Short-Term Business Travel program, including but not limited to, review of monthly travel data, maintaining active listing of business travelers, communication of immigration and tax compliance requirements, and education of travel tracker tool. • Play an active role in identification and implementation of process enhancements and automations, program reporting to senior management and business groups, escalations to Senior Manager, and supporting the Senior Manager in overall program operational improvements and reviews of program policy and tax positions. • Manage external providers ensuring optimal services delivery, handling issues within delegated authority and escalating to senior management attention, as required. • Coordinate vendor invoice reviews with junior analyst to ensure timely clearance of vendor billing, as well as support vendor spend analysis. • Stay current on cross-border tax rules and continuously build knowledge in areas that impact the mobility programs, including on tax legislative updates, benchmarking of industry practices, etc. • Review and maintain internal job aids and templates to document and/or update process changes and ensure continuity and accessibility of institutional knowledge. What do you need to succeed? • 5+ years of relevant experience in complex corporate environment, preferably in Global Mobility, Payroll or Tax. • Working knowledge of employer and employee income tax compliance (Canada and US at a minimum). • Experience with business traveler program, expatriate assignment program and tax equalization arrangement is a strong asset. • Financial literacy with experience reconciling general ledgers and preparation of internal reporting. • Strong organizational skills, self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities within complex processes • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and experience with business report preparation & presentation. • A can-do attitude with passion for delivering an exceptional employee experience. • Demonstrated ability to deliver under pressure through both independent and/or collaborative work effort. • Self-learner with fresh perspective, open to change and making value-add improvements to programs that will deliver operational excellence. • Advanced technical capability in HRIS and payroll systems (SAP, Workday); knowledge of MS Excel Power Query and Macro is strongly preferred.
