Rockstar is recruiting for a pioneering non-profit biotech focused on obtaining, completing development, and enabling commercial access to promising clinical-stage therapies for ultra-rare conditions. The organization utilizes alternative development and financing models to advance programs efficiently and sustainably, with proceeds reinvested to support additional rare disease therapies. It recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate US commercial access to an ex vivo gene therapy for Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, aiming to establish a viable path to market access for other advanced therapies for very small patient groups. Reports To: Chief Operating Officer Travel: ~25–35% (payer meetings, conferences, provider sites) Position Overview The organization provides a pioneering, efficient, collaborative, patient- and mission-driven work environment and welcomes colleagues who are ready to cross boundaries, take a hands-on approach, and bring new ideas to fruition. It is developing an innovative non-profit model and new “fit-for-purpose” processes that are cost-efficient and appropriate for rare disease patient populations who are otherwise often left behind. The Senior Director of Market Access is a critical position for the new gene therapy launch and will lead market access strategies to ensure timely, equitable, and sustainable coverage and reimbursement for this medicine. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise across commercial payers, state Medicaid programs, and rare/genetic medicine access pathways. In addition to market access leadership, this role will oversee patient and family support/services, integrating payer strategies with compassionate, compliant programs that remove barriers to care. Key Responsibilities Market Access Strategy & Execution - Develop and execute market access strategies and tactics across commercial, Medicaid, and specialty channels. - Partner with external vendors and internal Medical Affairs colleagues to develop payer engagement tools and materials including value proposition deck/dossier, value narratives, and real-world evidence that meet payer expectations. - Lead payer engagement: develop account plans, negotiate coverage criteria, influence prior authorization policies, and secure favorable reimbursement. - Own state Medicaid strategy: prepare dossiers, coordinate testimony, and navigate state-specific rules and coverage pathways. - Build and maintain relationships with specialty distributors and third-party logistics vendors. Patient & Family Support - Working in partnership with Qualified Treatment Centers, oversee patient services (navigation, financial assistance, reimbursement support) with guardrails for compliance and equity. Pricing, Policy & Compliance - Execute pricing strategy. - Monitor and interpret policy changes and advise proactive adaptations. - Ensure all access and patient service programs comply with federal and state regulations, OIG guidance, HIPAA, anti-kickback statute (AKS), and industry codes. Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MPH, MHA, PharmD) a plus. - 10+ years in market access, payer strategy, or reimbursement roles, including direct leadership of payer and Medicaid initiatives. - Demonstrated success securing coverage for rare diseases and/or genetic medicines (one-time treatments). - Deep understanding of U.S. payer landscape: commercial payers, state Medicaid, specialty distribution of advanced medicines. - Proven ability to develop compliant patient support programs for high-touch therapies. - Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills; data-driven decision-making and cross-functional leadership.
