Operational Controller Salary $120,000-$135,000 base plus 10% bonus (some flex to go a bit higher for the right candidate) Remote - with occasional travel (Maybe once a quarter - TBD) Benefits: Medical Dental etc. 3 Weeks PTO/VACA 5 Days Sick National Holidays 401k Matching Standard Costing, Inventory Valuation & Variances • Own the standard cost system: build, maintain, and annually roll forward standard costs across raw materials, components, WIP, and finished goods • Develop overhead absorption rates and analyze over- and under-absorption, recommending corrective action • Partner with Operations to maintain bills of material and routings, validating the material, labor, and overhead components for accuracy • Value inventory per US GAAP under the standard cost methodology • Manage reserves for excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory, presenting recommendations to the CFO and VP of Finance • Analyze and explain PPV, material usage, labor efficiency and rate, scrap, rework, and overhead variances • Dig into significant variances with Operations to root cause and drive corrective action Systems, Process & Controls • Act as finance owner for costing functionality in the ERP • Document and maintain internal controls over inventory and cost accounting, remediating deficiencies surfaced by testing or audit • Lead process automation and reporting improvements that cut manual effort and close time, including AI solutions per company policy • Review and maintain process narratives for inventory and COGS annually Inventory Control & Physical Accuracy • Partner with Operations to run the cycle count program across manufacturing, warehouse, and third-party locations — tracking count accuracy and driving corrective action on recurring discrepancies • Coordinate and observe physical inventories alongside internal and external auditors • Work with Operations to tighten transaction accuracy, receiving, and material movement discipline Month-End Close & Reporting • Partner with the VP of Finance on the annual budget and periodic forecasts for standard costs, inventory, COGS, and manufacturing spend • Prepare supporting schedules for the annual audit and act as the primary point of contact for cost- and inventory-related requests • Own the inventory and COGS portions of the monthly close, including journal entries, related account reconciliations, and flux analysis • Deliver monthly inventory analytics — rollforwards, inflation tracking, actuals vs. forecast and budget, and core KPIs — to management Leadership & Business Partnering • Lead, coach, and develop direct reports through goal setting, performance reviews, and career development • Serve as a trusted finance partner to Operations — Production, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Warehouse — and to the Rimports executive leadership team • Turn cost and variance data into plain-language insight that non-financial leaders can act on • Back continuous improvement, efficiency, and cost-reduction initiatives with credible financial quantification of savings Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Accounting • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 4+ years in cost accounting in manufacturing, consumer products, or distribution • Deep expertise in standard costing, BOM and routing structures, inventory valuation, and manufacturing variance analysis • Advanced Excel skills • Hands-on experience with a full-featured ERP • Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills, with the judgment to know which variances actually matter • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining financial results to operations audiences • Working knowledge of US GAAP as it applies to inventory and COGS Preferred Qualifications • CPA, CMA, or MBA. • Experience working in NetSuite is highly preferred, but not a requirement. • Experience supporting a company through rapid growth, including acquisition integration. • Proficiency with Claude or other AI models, specifically in developing custom scheduled tasks, skills, and projects to automate redundant processes. • Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency, import and tariff cost environments. • Familiarity with lean manufacturing / continuous improvement methodologies.
