Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, 5+ years accounting experience in restaurant or retail, proficiency with accounting software, strong GAAP knowledge, and leadership skills.
Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the accounting operations for a group of six quick-service restaurants based in the New York City area. The Controller will be responsible for managing all aspects of financial reporting, accounting processes, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with GAAP standards. This role will collaborate closely with ownership and operations leadership, providing financial insights and strategic guidance to drive profitability, operational efficiency, and long-term growth. This is a remote position with occasional travel as needed. Key Responsibilities • Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management. • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management for multiple restaurant locations. • Implement and maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and standard operating procedures. • Reconcile bank statements, merchant accounts, and POS system data to ensure accuracy. • Monitor and analyze inventory, food cost, and labor cost metrics to identify variances and recommend improvements. • Partner with external tax advisors, auditors, and other service providers to ensure compliance and efficiency. • Deliver financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations to ownership and senior management. • Supervise and develop a small accounting or finance support team as the organization grows. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred). • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in the restaurant, hospitality, or multi-unit retail industry. • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting standards. • Proficiency with Restaurant365 (or similar accounting software) and Microsoft Excel. • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines. • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
