Embark on a rewarding career journey with the Thurston Regional Library System as a Community Engagement & Outreach Specialist! We are seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to join our growing team in a full-time, remote-based position with a significant focus on delivering library services directly to the communities of Gray's Harbor County. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in expanding access to information and fostering a love of reading within diverse populations. This multifaceted role is central to our innovative Anywhere Library initiative, utilizing specially equipped mobile library vehicles to bring the library experience to locations where traditional library access may be limited. As a Community Engagement & Outreach Specialist, you will be the face of the library, connecting with patrons, providing essential information and resources, and fostering a welcoming environment for all. You will primarily operate and manage our Anywhere Library vehicles, serving a variety of community sites including childcare centers, community centers, residential facilities, senior centers, and schools throughout Gray's Harbor County. Reporting to the Library Manager and working closely with the Regional Anywhere Library Coordinator, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating a range of library programs and services tailored to the unique needs of each community you serve. This includes engaging storytelling sessions for children and adults, providing reader's advisory services, and facilitating access to library materials for those who may face barriers to visiting a traditional library. This is a newly developing service area, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of library access within our region. You will be an integral part of a collaborative team that will expand the Anywhere Library service across all five counties in the Thurston Regional Library System. If you are a self-motivated, highly personable individual with a genuine passion for community engagement and a proven ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds, we encourage you to apply. Key Responsibilities: • Mobile Library Operations: Operate and maintain Anywhere Library vehicles (Ford Transit-style vans), ensuring they are properly stocked, equipped, and safe for daily routes. Conduct regular vehicle inspections and coordinate with Fleet Technician for maintenance. • Community Outreach & Engagement: Identify and travel to various community locations to provide library services, including book lending, program delivery, and information dissemination. • Service Delivery: Provide exceptional reader's advisory, reference assistance, and circulation services to patrons outside of traditional library settings. • Material Handling: Process and deliver library materials between library locations and to designated community stops. • Program Development & Delivery: Plan, organize, and deliver engaging library programs and services for diverse community groups, including storytimes, workshops, and outreach events. • Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate checklists and reports related to mobile library operations and service delivery. • Collaboration & Communication: Work effectively with in-library staff to ensure seamless service delivery to communities served by the Anywhere Library team. • Training & Guidance: May provide training and support to other staff members on Anywhere Library services. • Customer Service Excellence: Consistently demonstrate high-quality customer service, building positive relationships with patrons and community partners. • Adaptability & Flexibility: Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and short-notice schedule adjustments. • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local driving laws and safe driving practices. Qualifications: • Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Library Science, Social Work, Communications) and at least one year of experience in library services, outreach, customer service, or community engagement; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Valid Driver's License: Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License with a safe driving record. • Background Check: Must successfully complete a criminal background check. • Driving Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to operate a fleet vehicle safely and efficiently. • Language Proficiency: Fluency in Spanish and English is highly preferred. Compensation & Benefits: • Salary Range: The full pay range for this position is $28.04 - $38.81 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. New employees typically start at step 1, 2, or 3 of the pay range. • Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and retirement contributions. • Bilingual Pay Incentive: A bilingual pay incentive is available for demonstrated fluency in Spanish, American Sign Language, Korean, or Vietnamese. • Union Affiliation: This position is part of the bargaining unit for AFSCME Local 3758. Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week. To Apply: Please submit your application, including a complete work history and a cover letter, through the online application portal. For positions requiring a Master of Library Science (MLIS) or State of Washington Librarian Certificate, please include these documents as attachments, though they are not required for initial application.
