Develop and own payment recovery infrastructure, billing integrations, and data ingestion pipelines with architectural decisions in a distributed team.
4+ years professional software engineering with strong backend and full-stack skills, proficiency in Python, Next.js, React, PostgreSQL, and AI tool usage.
Our client is a Stripe-native payment recovery platform for B2C subscription businesses. They help companies recover failed payments and reduce involuntary churn on a performance basis: no recovery, no fee. They have a working product, paying customers, and a growing business. They're now expanding our engineering team to build the infrastructure behind our next stage of growth. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is backend-leaning but comfortable across the full stack. The role is approximately 80% backend / 20% frontend. You'll work on commercially important systems including: Payment and billing integrations Data models and ingestion pipelines Retry, orchestration, and reconciliation systems Payment recovery infrastructure Machine-learning experiments and performance analysis Email and push notification workflows Internal tools and customer-facing product You'll own projects end to end — from understanding the problem and designing the solution to implementation and production. This isn't a role where you'll receive detailed specifications for every task. We need someone who can take a business or technical objective, make good architectural decisions, and ship a reliable solution independently. Tech Stack Python, Next.js / React, Supabase, PostgreSQL AI We use AI heavily in development and expect you to as well. You might use tools such as Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, or similar to accelerate implementation. However, AI doesn't replace engineering judgment. You must be able to: Understand and architect the problem before coding Review and validate AI-generated code Explain your technical decisions Understand how your code fits into the broader system Anticipate failure modes and edge cases You own the problem and the outcome; AI helps you move faster. Required 4+ years of professional software engineering experience Strong backend engineering skills with full-stack capability Experience independently owning and shipping production systems Strong system design and technical judgment Ability to work effectively with APIs, databases, integrations, and production systems Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information Strong English communication skills Experience using AI effectively in your development workflow Python / Next.js / React / PostgreSQL Payments, fintech, billing, or subscription infrastructure Third-party integrations Data ingestion or reconciliation systems Early-stage startup experience How We Work We're a small, distributed engineering team. We use Linear and two-week sprints, with regular sprint reviews and code reviews led by the Head of Engineering. We care about deliverables, not hours or screenshots. International candidates should have approximately 4–6 hours of overlap with the US team, particularly US Pacific/Central time. Who We're Looking For You're a self-starter who enjoys solving problems without being given every step. You're curious, move quickly, care about quality, and want your work to have a direct impact on the business. We're looking for someone who wants to grow with an early-stage company, not simply complete tickets and clock out. Interview Process Technical interview + test with the Head of Engineering Technical interview + test with the CTO Final interview with the CEO
