SENIOR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER General Function / Summary: The Principal Software Engineer serves as a senior technical leader focused on driving the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of SmartPay Leasing’s development and operations infrastructure. This role blends hands-on engineering with strategic oversight, guiding DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and system observability. As a cross-functional partner to Engineering, Product, and Security teams, the Principal Engineer ensures our platforms are stable, performant, and built to scale. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for automating complexity to accelerate delivery and improve system resilience. Essential Duties: • Design, develop, and maintain scalable software, systems, and infrastructure based on product needs and architecture. • Lead DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, monitoring, and incident response. • Drive continuous improvement in system reliability, performance, and efficiency. • Evaluate, implement, and optimize tools to enhance development and deployment workflows. • Collaborate with engineering, product, and security teams to support agile delivery and ensure software quality. • Develop and execute automated testing frameworks to validate functionality and performance. • Enhance and maintain existing software, resolving defects and improving integrations. • Translate business requirements into scalable, high-quality solutions. • Mentor engineers and promote best practices in coding, testing, and operations. Minimum Education and Experience Required: • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred), with 8+ years in software engineering and 3+ in DevOps or infrastructure roles. • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation). • Deep experience with CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, scalable distributed systems, and Java technologies (Java SE/EE, Spring). • Proven ability to design enterprise applications, lead cross-functional technical initiatives, and mentor teams. • Strong problem-solving, system architecture, performance tuning, and communication skills. Salary Range: $120,000- $150,000 Annually Our compensation structure considers various geographical markets within the United States. The base salary for this role reflects the typical expected earnings.
