6-8+ years of Unix/Linux system administration with expert RHEL skills, storage and clustering experience, scripting ability, and a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
System Administrator – RHEL Clustering & Automation Location: Local to Chicago, IL or Baltimore, MD sites (Joliet, LC3, BHQ, Owings Mills) – Mostly remote but must be local Type: Contract (4–12 months, extension possible) Start Date: ASAP (8/25–9/1/25 target) Role Overview • We are seeking experienced System Administrators with strong expertise in RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux), Unix/Linux system administration, clustering, and automation to support enterprise infrastructure and guide large-scale NFS storage migrations. • The role involves technical leadership, coordination with 200+ application teams, and hands-on system administration in a complex enterprise environment. Key Responsibilities: • Lead and coordinate NFS storage migrations with multiple application teams. • Manage and maintain RHEL 6, 7, 8, 9 servers (hardware & OS). • Administer and support VMware vSphere virtualized environments. • Configure and maintain server processes, backups, and security patches. • Create and maintain Ansible playbooks for automation. • Monitor and optimize system and platform performance. • Support production release management and implement IT changes. • Maintain accurate configuration and inventory records. • Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours maintenance. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high system availability. Required Skills & Experience: • 6–8+ years of System Administration (Unix/Linux, RHEL, clustering). • Expert-level Unix/Linux administration skills (RHEL, Oracle Linux). • Experience with storage administration (ZFS, LVM, Veritas). • Scripting experience (Bash, Perl, Python, or Java). • Strong experience with Ansible automation and Red Hat PCS clustering. • Ability to lead technical discussions and troubleshoot complex issues. • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field (or equivalent experience). Preferred Skills: • Experience with Veritas Infoscale, Oracle Clusterware, Solaris, Oracle Exadata. • Experience with Azure or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure administration. • VMware certification and experience with VMware hypervisor. • Experience with backup/recovery, RAID, SAN/NAS storage. • Relevant certifications (Red Hat, VMware, Azure, Oracle). Behavioral Expectations: • Self-starter with minimal supervision required. • Able to work extended hours for planned/emergency work. • Strong communication skills – can explain technical concepts in plain language. • Collaborative mindset, able to work across teams and functions.
