This role requires someone who can see beyond transactions to client transformation, who is fluent in both dialogue and persuasion, and who understands that our greatest asset is the ability to cultivate connected relationshipsnot a pitch deck. The person leading in this role will be expected to cultivate prospective clients, understand their suite of human capital development needs, and contract training programs to support those needs. Supporting a dialogue-driven organization with a global vision, this role will anchor the ability to discover and serve new client relationshipspartnering with Programs & Delivery, Operations & Marketing, and Technology to build a contact ecosystem that's scalable, durable, and purpose-built for the needs of people. The Opportunity The Director, Relationship Development, is one of the organization's leading builders of strategic relationshipsresponsible for identifying, initiating, and stewarding the connections that unlock program partnerships, earned revenue, and mission-aligned growth. This is not a traditional sales role. It's a trust-building, relevance-finding, purpose-aligning role. The person in this position will be responsible for helping prospectswhether corporate partners, philanthropic collaborators, civic groups, school systems, or community leadersunderstand what we offer, why it matters, and how it can transform their context. They must bring both the science of dialogue and the art of persuasionengaging stakeholders with empathy, activating them with insight, and guiding them toward meaningful collaboration. The opportunity includes a competitive base salary, benefit package, bonus opportunity, and a scaled-commission schedule to reward results and success in the role. Key Responsibilities 1. Relationship Activation and Stewardship • Identify and pursue high-potential relationships across sectors (business, education, philanthropy, civic) that align with our mission and program offerings. • Initiate contact, lead discovery conversations, and tailor engagement and solutions pathways that meet prospect needs while maintaining program integrity. • Build trust-based, long-term relationships with individuals and institutions that can become champions, clients, funders, or thought partners. 2. Earned Revenue Growth and Program Distribution • Drive participation in our signature offerings (e.g., Connecting at Work, Work Skills, Connected Classrooms, Safe Conversations Certification Programs) by cultivating strong-fit clients and partners. • Manage the full arc of opportunity developmentfrom initial outreach to closewhile maintaining clear, mission-driven communication. • Collaborate with the Chief Operations Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Learning Officer to ensure alignment between client needs and programmatic capabilities. 3. Messaging, Influence & Strategic Positioning • Co-develop messaging strategies and audience-specific narratives that connect our work to organizational pain points, social impact priorities, and leadership trends. • Translate our vision into language that resonates in corporate, educational, nonprofit, and civic contexts. • Support thought leadership initiatives (panels, talks, op-eds) that raise visibility and attract potential partners. 4. Cross-Team Leadership and Alignment • Collaborate closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure organizational priorities are reflected in partnership cultivation strategy. • Contribute to team planning, campaign design, and stakeholder engagement strategy from a relational lens. • Maintain CRM data and support performance tracking related to outreach, conversion, and relationship health. Role Qualifications The Director, Relationship Development, must be a pro-active, master communicator capable of expert listening and influence. As well, the ideal candidate must also be self-directed, learning systems-savvy professional with the ability to manage complexity while keeping mission and message at the center. Skills and experience they will need to deliver: • Ten-plus (10+) years of experience in business development, relationship management, client success, fundraising, or partnership cultivation (preferably in both nonprofit and commercial environments). • A proven ability to engage diverse audiences with confidence, empathy, and purposeleading to measurable growth in partnerships or revenue. • Comfort with consultative selling or value-based fundraising, and an ability to move from discovery to close with authenticity. • Strong understanding of organizational dynamics, leadership development, and social-emotional learning. • Clear, persuasive communicator with excellent listening skills and natural storytelling instincts. • Deep alignment with our mission and an ability to represent it with credibility and care. • Passion for dialogue, human connection, and systems-level change. • Proven track record of building efficient, human-centered systems that support scale. • A heart for mission, a mind for systems, and an eye for design. Performance and Review The CEO, in consultation with the Senior Leadership Team, will review the Director, Relationship Development's performance annually, using jointly agreed-upon metrics that align with the strategic plan and organizational mission.
