Full Description

We are seeking an R&D Opto-Mechanical Engineer. Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of physics and engineering? We are seeking talented individuals to contribute to the design and development of next-generation ion trap Quantum Computers. Key Responsibilities: • Contribute to a team that delivers state-of-the-art solutions for housing next-generation ion trap • systems in a high-performance physics package • Work closely with colleagues and collaborators to design, model, build, integrate, test, • revise, and/or validate prototype and proof of concept designs for complex ultrahigh vacuum, • cryogenic, and optical systems, including individual components and integrated solutions • Work with other teams to develop and refine requirements for complex physics package systems • and components • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including lab engineers, optical engineers, mechanical • engineers, electrical engineers, systems engineers, physicists • Design and build novel components for ultrahigh vacuum and cryogenic test systems • Iterate on designs by performing simulations, testing, and analyzing results to draw • conclusions and recommend actions • Troubleshoot and conduct failure analysis of these systems to improve design, performance, and process • Analyze data to draw conclusions and recommend actions • Perform hands-on cleanroom and cryogenics assembly, validation, and trouble-shooting • Help develop, implement, and oversee best engineering practices across the team and collaborations • Work with external vendors to develop and/or fabricate solutions YOU MUST HAVE: • Bachelor’s degree minimum • Minimum 2+ years (degree inclusive) of mechanical design experience, including 3D CAD based modeling, engineering drawings, thermal and structural analysis • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen. • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. person (defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status) WE VALUE: • WE VALUE: • Bachelor’s degree minimum in mechanical engineering or related field • Broad understanding of optical, mechanical, thermal and/or cryogenic principles and practices, and experience applying this knowledge in detail to projects • Experience with thermal and/or structural analysis, COMSOL or ANSYS experience is a plus • Experience with rapid prototyping and hands-on work building and testing components • Experience with optical and electrical test equipment • Experience with cryogenic principles and/or experimental systems • Experience with engineering change documentation • Ability to work from assembly drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, sketches, and other written, visual, and oral instructions • Experience in working with scientists, engineers, and vendors • Strong written and oral communication skills • Strong organizational and leadership skills • Deep curiosity and willingness to learn new things across sub-disciplines Quantinuum is the world’s largest integrated quantum company, driving breakthroughs in materials discovery, cybersecurity, and next-generation quantum AI.
