Candidates should have a BFA or BA in Design or a related field and 5-7 years of experience in surface design products. Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and flexibility in artistic style are also required.

As the Associate Designer you will support all senior Design staff reporting into the Creative Director (CD) and Art Director (AD) and is supervised by the Lead Designer (LD). The Associate Designer is a mid-level position in the Art Department working on projects as assigned by senior Design staff to support the Art Department workflow and creating designs with custom or proprietary projects. This is hybrid position to work at our Culver City office location. Monday and Friday are optional work from home. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are required onsite. No exceptions. Please visit our website: https://www.punchstudio.com/ · Follow all art direction and critique from the CD/AD, with guidance from the LD, completing all projects in a timely manner adhering to assigned deadlines, department processes, and procedures. · Contribute creative input and conceptual development following the overall design direction from the AD/LD on various programs and accounts to create new, unique designs that support their target market, ensuring quality and consistency as it related to seasonal trend inspiration. · Conceptualize and design original surface patterns - either digitally, or by using traditional painting and sketching skills. · Expand upon existing artwork provided by AD/LD to build-out original production-ready designs to apply to various products and templates as assigned. · Daily check-ins, providing updates on progress, approval status and alerting of any foreseeable risks and manages up where necessary. · Ability to take constructive criticism well from leadership and clients · Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team · Solid understanding of the marketplace and competitive set · Proactively researches and shops the competitive market with an eye for identifying trend, color and whitespace · Proven track record of translating trend direction into successful designs, by merchandising cohesive collections, and delivering results · Capability to think critically and solve problems quickly and efficiently manage upwards and down · Work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while paying close attention to detail · Excellent organizational, analytical, written and verbal communication · Team player with a positive attitude and eagerness to learn and grow · Responsible for all aspects of a product, including digital files and embellishment specifications. · Uphold highest standard of organization in personal workspace and in digital workspace/files. · Follow Art Department protocol and guidelines set forth by the CD. · Contribute positively to the Design Team dynamic by performing all tasks with a willing attitude, strong sense of urgency, and shows dedication to the company by creatively designing into the brand aesthetic. · Keep up-to-date on industry trends by shopping and researching the competitive marketplace and create inspiration and color boards. · Maintain a high level of aesthetic judgement and effectively translate trends into products while cohesively merchandising collections. · Make clean, neat, product mock-ups with the highest quality standard possible. · The goal of the Associate Designer should be to support the design staff and should be considered as training program for ascending to the position of Designer. · Other tasks as assigned. · Onsite presence Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. No exceptions. · BFA or BA in Design, Illustration, Fine Arts, Textiles (or related field). · 5-7 years of experience working with surface design products such as stationery, wall décor, decorative storage boxes, etc. · Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite · Must be a highly energetic self-starter with an entrepreneurial mind and understand the brand aesthetic and price point · Extensive knowledge of MAC Operating Systems, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite · Flexibility in artistic style – able to create art from scratch with many different looks using traditional and digital techniques. · Skilled with home décor embellishments techniques (i.e. gold-leafing, spot color paints, etc.) · Strong knowledge of surface pattern repeats, composition and engineered layouts, composition and color · Skilled in typography · Textile Design, Packaging Design and 3D experience a plus All full-time employees can receive medical, vision, and dental. 9 paid holidays, including your birthday!
