The following essential functions are the critical duties an employee must be able to perform either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation. Define the operation process plan to : A. Determine best machine based on this criteria • Efficiency – Most cost effective ($$) • Availability – Delivery Requirements (Backlog) • Back-up Machine (Contingency Planning) B. Determine Operation Steps/Sequences • Best place to establish part zero (X,Y,Z,W) as they apply • What sequence each feature event should be machined in • What critical attributes should be included in the In-Process Inspection Determine best Work holding for each sequence • Do we have available fixture/jaws to hold this part • Do we need to make a fixture or jaws specific to this part • Can we modify an existing fixture or set of jaws to hold this part • Create the DPP Set-up details for each operation Determine cutting tools from stock, make or purchase • Are the required tools to machine each feature in house • Do they utilize technology (thru the tool coolant, Specific coatings, chip breaker, ect) • Do we have to order any special tooling • Create the DPP Tool List for each operation Gather costs for tooling/procure quotations • Find competitive solutions for custom tooling • Submit all tooling quotes for review • Advise quoting of any tooling cost requirement Evaluate inspection • Do we have all the required inspection tools needed to check each feature • Do we have to purchase any special items to inspect a feature • Communicate with quality Programming • Work with Manufacturing Engineer Manager to create a productive CNC program based on the tooling and sequence of feature machining we discussed above. • Negotiate starting feed/speed Parameters • On complex machining operations work side by side with the set-up machinist as you proof out the CNC program, ensuring that it is running as intended. • Work with machinist to modify as needed (Speed and Feeds) to achieve highest efficiency while maintaining realistic tool life. • Main communication source between the Machinist and the Programming Office Additional Position Specific – Details 1.) Supporting high probability “project” quotes based on needed requirements. • Generate ideas for manufacturing methodologies. • Gather as much up front data as possible to optimize project start up. • Based on requirements from customer orders, plan sequences of operations for machining and assembly of products. • Ensure efficient and effective manufacturing methods are used that are compatible to available machines. • Specifies, design and/or procures special tooling or equipment required to attain product per customer requirement with in budgeted cost and time. • Programs CNC machines to effectively and efficiently produce desired product. • Analyze and resolve machining and tooling issues to avoid problems. • Create new or modify existing manufacturing drawings using CAD methodology. • Value engineer existing products and processes to reduce cost, lead time and cycle times. • Complies with all company policies/procedures. • Complies with all military and contractual requirements. 2.) Solving problems during the NJSU project implementation • Technical: through drawing and specification interpretation. (With the customer, in the office and on the shop floor.) • Financial: Seek to prevent cost overruns by monitoring project costs and addressing issues as they appear. 3.) Driving awareness across the enterprise. • Communicating schedule-related items to appropriate people in operation, scheduling, planning/purchasing, supplier management and quality assurance roles • Identifying needs for special action when standard action is not meeting project goals. Communicating those needs appropriately. • Facilitating resolution of manufacturing issues related to fixturing/tooling/programming where necessary, while understanding and respecting organizational lines of responsibility and communication. • Facilitating resolution of quality/inspection related issues by communicating with quality assurance staff and the customer on when required. Requirements: • Education: Requires an associate degree or equivalent job experience in CNC Machining/Programming. • Experience: 5 years Minimum • Skills and competencies: The Process Engineer must have strong manufacturing skills, CADCAM skills, blueprint reading skills (including GD&T), and communication skills. Specific FeatureCam and Solidworks experience would be a plus.
