Position Summary At Proof Strategies, we believe trust is earned, and we work every day to help our clients do just that. As an international communications and public relations agency, we place people at the heart of shaping attitudes, behaviors, and creating meaningful change. We’re seeking a Senior Director to join our growing Washington, D.C. team. This is a hands-on leadership role for a communications professional with 6+ years of experience in public relations, earned media, and marketing strategy. The ideal candidate brings agency experience, strong interpersonal skills, a track record of leading integrated campaigns, and an interest in helping grow a small but ambitious office. This person will lead day-to-day account strategy across government and nonprofit clients, directing earned media, event planning and coordination, including Capitol Hill events, and integrated marketing initiatives. They will mentor other team members, oversee execution, and contribute meaningfully to new business growth and overall office development. We are looking for someone who is sharp, collaborative, adaptable, and motivated by growth. A strong sense of humor, emotional intelligence, and a passion for building something alongside a close-knit team are essential. You’ll work closely with the Vice President within a cohesive team that values proactive thinking, accountability, collaboration, and good humor. Only candidates residing in the greater Washington, D.C. area will be considered. Responsibilities and Duties • Lead the execution of integrated public relations and marketing programs for government and nonprofit clients. • Develop a deep understanding of each client’s mission, priorities, and audiences, translating business objectives into clear earned media, event, and marketing strategies. • Serve as the day-to-day strategic lead on assigned accounts, ensuring deliverables are aligned with client goals, delivered on time, and executed at a high standard of quality. • Lead planning and coordination of in-person and virtual events, including stakeholder briefings, industry convenings, and events on Capitol Hill. • Direct and oversee earned media strategy and execution, providing guidance on pitch development, reporter engagement plans, proactive media recommendations, and media analysis for clients. • Lead development of marketing initiatives including brand positioning, campaign planning, content strategy, and launch sequencing. • Provide thoughtful client counsel and maintain strong, trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders. • Supervise and mentor junior team members, ensuring clear delegation, accountability, and professional development. • Support office growth by contributing to new business strategy, proposal development, prospect research, and outreach planning. • Identify opportunities for organic growth within existing accounts and proactively recommend new ideas that expand client impact. • Contribute to the Washington office’s profile through networking, industry engagement, and relationship-building across the D.C. communications ecosystem. • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Vice President. Qualifications • 6+ years of experience in public relations, marketing communications, or integrated communications for government, nonprofit, or corporate clients (agency experience strongly preferred). • Demonstrated experience leading earned media strategies and integrated marketing initiatives, including brand positioning and campaign development. • Experience managing client relationships and supervising junior team members. • Experience contributing to new business strategy, proposal development, and client growth initiatives. • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field. • Strong working knowledge of media monitoring platforms (e.g., Meltwater or similar) and familiarity with CRM systems and marketing tools. • Comfort leveraging AI tools to support research, strategic planning, content development, and workflow efficiency. Work Hours and Environment Employees are entrusted to work a schedule that facilitates the successful execution of their responsibilities and ensures accessibility to both internal and external stakeholders. Employees based in the U.S. are required to work two days per week in the office, located near Gallery Pl-Chinatown, and three days remotely. Standard business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with allowances for flexibility as necessary.
