Location: Detroit, MI Status: Full-Time Position Summary The Manager on Duty is a frontline leader responsible for ensuring smooth, professional, and guest-centered operations during the Historic Detroit landmark’s open hours and events. This role maintains real-time oversight of all guest services functions, ensuring staff coverage, service consistency, and strong alignment with operational expectations. As we transition leadership of this team, we see a clear need for higher engagement, stronger professionalism, reliable attendance, and consistent execution. Some team members have demonstrated exceptional commitment and passion for the landmark—this role is critical in elevating that standard across the entire team. The Manager will reinforce expectations, provide coaching, and help build a culture centered on attentiveness, teamwork, and pride in representing Detroit. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Staff Management • Supervise staff and volunteers, ensuring they are engaged, attentive, and positioned appropriately across the landmark. • Ensure all team members follow schedules, maintain professionalism, and take breaks at designated times. • Lead daily briefings to communicate expectations, updates, event details, and service priorities. • Train, coach, and develop staff to meet standards of engagement, guest interaction, and reliability. Operational Oversight • Conduct daily pre-opening walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness, signage accuracy, and operational readiness. • Serve as the primary escalation point for guest concerns and operational issues, resolving challenges diplomatically. • Monitor service performance and reinforce consistency across all guest touchpoints. • Support the execution of public programs and special events in partnership with Events and Facilities teams. Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities • Document safety concerns, service issues, and guest feedback for leadership review. • Monitor merchandise levels, restock inventory, and flag low-stock items. • Provide real-time business insights, such as fluctuations in traffic, guest sentiment, or sales patterns that may impact staffing and service decisions. Qualifications • 2+ years of supervisory experience in retail management, events, cultural institutions, or visitor services. • Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate teams and model professionalism. • Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to stay calm and confident under pressure. • Highly reliable and capable of enforcing standards consistently and fairly. • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in dynamic, high-traffic environments. • Basic computer and cashiering skills are a plus. • Bilingual or multilingual abilities preferred. • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and Friday–Sunday as needed.
