AI Engineering Contractor Remote: W2 Open-Ended Contract No sponsorship, No Corp to Corp, No 3rd Party Vendors Position Overview We are seeking a highly hands-on AI Engineer to build and operationalize the AI foundation across enterprise systems. This role focuses on integrating AI capabilities into existing workflows while introducing targeted new functionality where it drives measurable value. This is an execution-focused role — not a strategy or vision-setting position. The ideal candidate is a strong practitioner who can clearly articulate major AI developments over the past three years and apply that knowledge directly to real-world enterprise systems. Interviews will heavily assess the depth of MCP experience. This position was created to bring AI expertise in-house after prior consulting engagements did not meet execution expectations. We are looking for a technically confident builder who can lead through delivery, not experimentation. What You’ll Do As part of the AI Delivery team, you will design, build, deploy, and support AI-powered systems, including LLM-based applications, retrieval pipelines, and multi-agent solutions. You will play a central role in workflow automation initiatives and the development of an MCP gateway framework. • Integrate AI capabilities into existing enterprise applications and workflows. • Architect, build, and deploy LLM-driven applications, including RAG pipelines and agent-based systems. • Design and implement AI inference services operating through MCP Gateway and MCP Servers. • Develop and maintain data pipelines supporting embeddings, vector search, and prompt orchestration. • Conduct model evaluation, hallucination testing, drift monitoring, and safety guardrail implementation. • Provide root cause analysis for AI inference failures, degraded model performance, and MCP integration issues. • Write and maintain unit tests, automated validation harnesses, and AI service test frameworks. • Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog grooming, standups). • Collaborate with Product Owners, business stakeholders, engineers, and analysts to translate requirements into executable AI solutions. • Contribute to scalable, fault-tolerant, observable AI architectures aligned with enterprise standards. • Mentor team members and establish repeatable AI engineering patterns. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent experience. • 7+ years of software development experience. • 3+ years of hands-on AI/ML engineering experience, including LLMs, NLP, ML pipelines, and RAG. • Deep experience with MCP Gateway and MCP Server integration (strongly preferred). • Experience deploying AI workloads in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.). • Strong background in microservices, REST APIs, containerization (Docker), and CI/CD pipelines. • Experience working within Agile delivery environments. Desired Skills • Strong understanding of embeddings, vector databases, retrieval architectures, and prompt engineering. • Experience integrating AI into distributed systems and event-driven architecture. • Ability to evaluate tradeoffs across model cost, latency, scalability, and maintainability. • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. • Ability to adapt quickly to evolving AI tooling and frameworks.
