ABOUT PORTLAND FIRE: Professional women’s basketball is returning to Rip City. On September 18, 2024, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) awarded Portland its 15th franchise, bringing the league back to the city for the first time in over two decades. Owned and operated by the Bhathal family through RAJ Sports, the team will make its official debut in 2026 at the Moda Center. Portland is cementing itself as the epicenter of women’s sports, powered by a passionate fan base and a rich basketball culture. At Portland Fire, we’re building more than a team, we’re creating a modern, inclusive, and community-driven organization from the ground up. With innovation, integrity, and excellence at our core, our mission is to set a new standard in women’s professional basketball - delivering excellence on the court, inspiring fans, and serving the city we call home. As we prepare for our inaugural season, we’re looking for passionate, driven professionals to help shape the future of this franchise and the future of the game. THE ROLE: As the Community Impact Manager for the Portland Fire, you will support the development and execution of meaningful community engagement and social responsibility initiatives that strengthen the connection between the organization and the broader Portland community. You will work closely with the Community Impact Director to implement impactful programs, build strong local partnerships, and ensure that the Fire platform is used to create lasting, positive change. WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO: Program Implementation • Execute community engagement strategies aligned with the organization’s mission and the direction set by the Community Impact Director. • Help bring to life initiatives that support social inclusion, youth development, and equitable community access. Partnership Support • Maintain and grow relationships with local nonprofits, schools, and community groups. • Support partnership activations and ensure partners have the tools they need to succeed. Volunteer Coordination • Help manage and grow volunteer initiatives that involve staff, fans, and players. • Coordinate logistics for participation in community service projects and track involvement. Philanthropic Program Support • Assist in the planning, execution, and promotion of charitable initiatives, including donation drives, grants, and giving campaigns. Event Coordination • Support the planning and execution of community events and appearances on game days and throughout the season, ensuring smooth operations and strong community impact. Impact Reporting • Track and evaluate community program outcomes. Help collect stories, data, and feedback that show the impact of the Fire’s community work. Storytelling and Communication • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to help craft content that highlights the organization’s community initiatives and impact stories. Fundraising Support • Assist with donor engagement, partner cultivation, and content creation to support fundraising efforts led by the Community Impact team. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Support • Assist with the coordination of initiatives that promote equity and inclusion within the organization and in the community. WHAT IT TAKES: • 5+ years of experience in sports or non-sports non-profit work, specifically in community development, program implementation and execution, strategic partnerships, events, or volunteer management. • A passion for community service, social impact, and connecting people to purpose. • Proven track record of planning and executing successful events, including logistics, budgeting, and resource management. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Creative thinker with the ability to develop innovative solutions and programming to address community needs and objectives. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people. • Experience planning and executing community events or programs is a plus. • A team-first mindset with a desire to collaborate and support others to achieve shared goals. • Passion for basketball and a commitment to making a positive impact in the community. • Bilingual (English/Spanish) Preferred.
