Job Title: Public Relations Intern Location: Remote Position Type: Internship Salary: Unpaid / College Credit Applicable Reports to: Founder & CEO / Public Relations Manager Job Summary: Pop of Color PR is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and ambitious Public Relations Intern to join their team for one collegiate semester. The ideal candidate will be a strong multi-tasker with a team-player-approach to tackling various tasks and a can-do work ethic. Seeing that this is an educational internship, the agency is open to teaching opportunities, mentorship, and professional development with networking opportunities available within the industry. Agency Background: Pop of Color PR is a boutique publicity agency based in NYC, and is owned and operated by Heather Brown (she/her), a 20-year PR veteran and creative force who has represented brands such as Nickelodeon, Paramount, CNN, and some of the most influential talent across news, sports and entertainment. Clients include: Emmy and Peabody Award-winning W. Kamau Bell, the World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters, racial-equity trailblazer Glenn Singleton, Misty Copeland’s Life in Motion Pictures, and Dove/CROWN. Key Responsibilities: • Writing and editing: Assist in drafting press releases and media alerts for various agency clients. Strong proofreading and editing skills are a must. • Media relations: Assist in developing and maintaining various media lists within media database (Muck Rack) for numerous markets, inclusive of outlet and journalist research. • Research: Assist in conducting research for various PR campaigns, media lists and industry trends. Gather data and information to help the agency make informed, timely decisions. • Administrative tasks: Provide general administrative support to team, including scheduling meetings, maintaining G-Drive files, organizing client PR materials with meticulous detail and managing client contact lists. • Social media: If knowledgeable in business social media management, assist in managing the agency’s social media channels by collaborating with PR manager on content calendar, engagement monitoring and inquiry responses. Qualifications: • Currently pursuing an AA/AS, BS/BA or MS/MA from an accredited university in one of the following areas: public relations, journalism, broadcast journalism, marketing, advertising, mass communication and/or speech communication • Understanding of PR and marketing concepts and best practices • Computer savvy; working knowledge of databases (e.g. Muck Rack), design software (e.g. Photoshop, Canva) and social media is a plus • Excellent communication and writing skills • Well-organized and deadline driven • An analytical mind with attention to detail Pop of Color PR is proudly Black and woman-owned with an unwavering commitment to amplifying diverse voices in crowded media landscapes.
