Full Description

At Playtoon It, Inc., we blend visual novels, webcomics, and interactive games into a creator-first platform. We are seeking a Game Design/Digital Art Intern (Winter-Spring 2026) to help craft gameplay experiences, produce 2D/3D assets, and support web-based story-driven titles. You’ll join a small, collaborative team that values rapid iteration, clean Git workflows, and creative problem-solving. Note: We prefer interns who can start as soon as possible, though due to scheduling and onboarding timelines, start dates may vary. Responsibilities • Design, prototype, and balance gameplay features for web-deployed games. • Create and integrate 2D/3D art assets, animations, and UI elements. • Collaborate via Git (pull requests, code reviews) to maintain high-quality standards. • Assist engineers with asset pipelines, scene setup, and basic scripting (Unity C#, Godot GDScript, or JavaScript). • Contribute to front-end polish (HTML/CSS/JS) and coordinate with back-end APIs for leaderboards or user data. • Debug visual or gameplay issues across browsers and devices. • Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint reviews) and provide clear documentation of your work. Required Skills • Coursework or project experience in game design theory. • Proficiency in a digital art OR 3D modeling pipeline (Blender, Maya, Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, or similar) OR familiarity with a 3D-capable game engine (Unity or comparable web engine). • Comfortable using Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration. • Basic understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and at least one back-end or scripting language (Node.js, Python, or C#). • Strong communication, documentation, and iterative design skills. Optional / Learn-As-You-Go Skills (Not required on day one: you can grow into these based on your team role and interests.) • Basic web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). • Scripting with Node.js, Python, or C#. • Knowledge of Godot (GDScript) or other lightweight web engines. • Familiarity with front-end frameworks (React, Next.js) to support UI polish. • Understanding of asset pipeline optimization or shader work. • UI/UX design experience with a creative/artistic eye. • Debugging cross-browser performance and responsive layouts. Benefits • Direct mentorship from experienced designers, artists, and engineers; recommendation letter on successful completion. • Hands-on experience of production code and art shipped to real users. • Flexible hours to accommodate academic schedules. • A portfolio piece demonstrating full game-development workflow from concept to deployment. Who Should Apply This is a educational, student-based internship for undergraduate and graduate students. We also welcome pre-college students, recent graduates, and self-taught developers who want to sharpen their skills and build a portfolio. Whether you’re stronger in frontend, backend, or design, there’s room to contribute and learn. Please Note: This internship is unpaid. It is scheduled over Fall-Winter 2025, offering flexible hours to accommodate academic and personal commitments.
