Grow with us. Lead with us. At Pioneer, you’ll work directly with executive teams, solving complex problems and shaping strategies that reset what’s possible. Sometimes the work is headline-worthy. Sometimes it’s foundational. But every project earns trust – and earns us the right to take on more. You’ll get the kind of access, challenge, and growth found at big firms – while helping build a company that’s scaling fast and guided by what we value. If you're looking for meaning, momentum, and a seat at the table, you're in the right place. Pioneer is supporting a client looking for an experienced applications operations leader to provide hands-on interim management for Applications Development and Support. The consultant will supervise assigned teams, maintain dependable application and ERP support, manage delivery commitments, strengthen operational discipline, and correct service and execution gaps. This engagement is focused on day-to-day management, service continuity, delivery performance, staff leadership, and implementation of operational improvements. The consultant will translate Director-established priorities into executable work, surface risks and resource needs, and provide factual operational findings to support Director-level decisions. RESPONSIBILITIES • Direct and coordinate assigned application development, maintenance, implementation, integration, database, ERP support, and production support activities. • Supervise professional, technical, and clerical personnel; assign work, set expectations, coach staff, manage performance, and address coverage needs. • Maintain service continuity for critical finance, payroll, HR, administrative, and customer-facing applications using defined incident, escalation, change, and recovery procedures. • Manage functional and technical requirements, estimation, development, testing, documentation, release, maintenance, and support practices for assigned services. • Monitor operational vendors and consultants against assigned scope, service levels, deliverables, issues, and contract obligations; escalate strategic or contractual decisions to the Director. • Support budget tracking and resource planning for assigned operations; identify variances and requests requiring Director action. • Provide routine operational reporting on service health, incidents, backlog, delivery status, capacity, quality, risks, and decisions requiring escalation. QUALIFICATIONS • Former assistant director, applications manager, enterprise systems manager, ERP operations leader, or comparable hands-on technical manager. • Demonstrated success supervising technical teams responsible for application development, integrations, production support, databases, releases, and continuous improvement. • Experience supporting mission-critical finance, payroll, HR, ERP, administrative, web-based, and database services. • Strong staff leadership, operational management, ITSM, delivery management, vendor oversight, documentation, problem-solving, and customer communication capabilities. PREFERRED • Public sector, education, county government, or similarly complex and regulated experience Additional Details Job Type: Contract Pay: $85 - $120/hr. This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement and is not eligible for Pioneer benefits. Work Location: Remote with travel.
