Test and troubleshoot wearable hardware in the field, provide feedback for product iteration, and design SOPs for deployment and maintenance.
Requires 2+ years in field engineering or hardware testing with comfort in hardware and field conditions, plus strong communication skills.
Role Overview We are looking for a hands-on Field Engineer to own the technical success of our data collection hardware in the wild. You will be responsible for testing wearable devices, ensuring hardware/software reliability in diverse environments, and driving the iterative design of our Standard Operating Procedures. You will be the link between our technical team and our field operations - running lab & field testing, capturing feedback, identifying issues, analysing the root cause and ultimately helping design a more resilient system. Key Responsibilities 1. Hardware & Software Field Testing • Stress Testing: Put multiple wearable devices through their paces in different conditions (speed, temperature, humidity, dust, lighting etc). • On-site Debugging: Troubleshoot data capture, connectivity, ergonomics, battery life, and software crashes in real-time to minimize downtime. • 2. Feedback & Product Iteration • UX/Ergonomics Feedback: Collect detailed feedback from human demonstrators regarding wearable weight, comfort, interference, and heat dissipation during long shifts. • Technical Reporting: Create structured testing reports to help teams prioritize key fixes and feature requests. • Feature Validation: Act as the first user for new software features or hardware mods before they are rolled out to the broader operator fleet. • 3. SOP Design & Optimization • Process Engineering: Work with the operational team to design the most efficient way to charge, sync, and deploy multiple wearables simultaneously. • Data Quality Control: Monitor & analyse incoming data streams for quality issues and share feedback & insights with the technical team to help resolve these. • Training: Build technical training manuals and train non-technical operators on how to handle and maintain the hardware. Requirements • Technical Background: Degree in Mechanical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or Software Engineering (or equivalent hands-on experience). • Hardware Literacy: You are comfortable working with hardware devices. You’ve ideally worked with embedded systems (Linux/Android), cameras, or IMU sensors. • Field Grit: You enjoy being out of the office. You are comfortable working in factories, farms, or busy urban centers where conditions aren't perfect. • Analytical Mindset: You can look at a failing data pipeline and systematically isolate whether the issue is hardware, software, or human error. • Communication: Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal) to document technical issues for a global engineering team. • Experience: 2+ years in field engineering, hardware testing, or robotics operations. Experience with wearable tech & vision systems is a major plus. Offer Details: • Commitment Required: 20 hours per week minimum. • Engagement Type: Contractor(no medical or paid leave). • This is a Field Ops role with regular travel requirements.
