Job Description As an SAP S/4HANA IT Architect focused on FICO, you will serve as a technical leader within the SAP landscape, overseeing key finance-related domains including Central Finance, Central Payments, General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Margin Analysis, Product Costing, Cost Center Accounting, Internal Orders, Global Taxation, Period-End Closing, Intercompany Transactions, Revenue Accounting & Reporting (RAR), Credit Management, and Treasury. Your role will also encompass integration across essential modules such as Sales & Distribution, Materials Management, and Manufacturing. In addition, you will act as a strategic partner and liaison for global finance stakeholders. This position will initially involve hands-on technical aspects of solution design, technical configuration, and delivery, with growth opportunities into leadership and people management roles. You’ll be accountable for driving the global SAP FICO architecture and its integration with external applications (such as tax engines like CCH/Vertex, DPAO, etc.). The role requires collaboration with global business and SAP teams to drive business process improvements and adopt best-in-class industry practices. A solid grasp of current technology trends and an eagerness to explore cross-functional systems are key for success in this position. This hybrid role is based in Chicago NW Suburb (3 days per week onsite). Key Responsibilities: • Deliver expert-level SAP FICO solutions by designing, configuring, testing, and implementing end-to-end processes. • Develop solution architectures for FICO modules and integrate with external systems such as CCH/Vertex (tax engines), DPAO/Paymetric (credit card processing), EDI, Ariba, etc., within complex, global project frameworks. • Engage with business users to understand requirements, offer deep SAP functional knowledge (AR, AP, GL, Controlling, Credit Management, Tax, Product Costing, Margin Analysis, Intercompany, RAR, Financial Reporting), and lead solutioning activities including gap analysis, prototyping, and presenting design options. • Evaluate current processes and identify improvements or automation opportunities within the finance process landscape. • Partner with SAP leads and analysts to conduct design reviews, ensuring delivery of high-quality and timely solutions. • Lead problem resolution efforts, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. • Stay current with SAP innovations within the FICO space and recommend enhancements aligned with evolving business needs. • Work closely with SAP teams across global time zones (U.S. and Asia) throughout the development, testing, and deployment lifecycle. • Support data and analytics platform integration during design, testing, and implementation phases, and assist with ongoing data governance initiatives. • Ensure solutions comply with established data security and governance frameworks. • Contribute across all project phases—planning, blueprinting, development, testing, and post-go-live support. • Comply with low-code/no-code design principles. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced coursework is a plus. • Minimum of 10 years of experience focused on SAP Finance modules (AR, AP, GL, Credit Management, Controlling, Product Costing, Margin Analysis, Tax, RAR, Financial Reporting & Consolidations), including integration with modules like MM, SD, and PP. • At least 4 years of experience delivering complex, large-scale transformation programs within global enterprises operating in key regions such as the U.S., Mexico, China, Germany, Hong Kong, and the UK. • Strong background in architecting solutions across dual ERP landscapes (SAP ECC and S/4HANA), and familiarity with third-party platforms including tax engines (CCH/Vertex), DPAO/Paymetric, EDI, and business intelligence/data platforms. • Demonstrated capability to address complex challenges using sound analytical judgment, while remaining attuned to business trends and process optimization. • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deliver effective presentations. • Skilled in problem solving, root cause analysis, and rapidly acquiring new technologies and concepts. • Adheres to operational procedures and can navigate within policy frameworks to identify and implement the most effective solutions. • Occasional international travel may be required (1–2 trips per year). • Experience in a mid-sized corporate environment (non-consulting roles preferred).
