Job Title: Professional Development Specialist (Freelance): Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Report to: Executive Director of Professional Development Job Locations: Remote positions in the United States Responsibilities: Are you a retired educator or educator transitioning out of the classroom? Do you enjoy facilitating professional learning online and in person? Perfection Learning is seeking independent contractors, Professional Development Specialists with a background in teaching secondary English Language Arts, Social Studies, and/or Advanced Placement courses along with experience delivering professional development with secondary educators and school leaders. The professional development specialist will work closely with the Executive Director of Professional Development and will be responsible for facilitating high-quality professional development with educators and district/school leaders. In this role you will: • Develop and maintain expertise on Perfection Learning programs and related professional development offerings. • Deliver high-quality professional development sessions to educators and district/school leaders. • Understand customers unique contexts for implementation and deliver professional development to meet their needs. • Track and complete deliverables related to session logistics in a timely manner. • Engage in an internal cycle of professional improvement and development (including being observed, receiving feedback, and being coached). Qualifications/Job Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. • 3-5 years ELA teaching experience at the middle school or secondary level • 2-3 years delivering professional development, ideally to Grade 6-12 educators • Strong working knowledge of state ELA standards and/or Advanced Placement course requirements and best practices for implementing high-quality instruction • Understand principles of adult learning and how to apply them to professional development to ensure participants meet learning objectives • Excellent facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills • Demonstrated ability to facilitate onsite and virtual professional development for teachers and/or school leaders. • High comfort with navigating ambiguity and responding confidently to in-the-moment challenges or concerns in order to meet educator needs. • Exceptional time management skills: ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately. Proven organizational skills and high attention to detail. • Excellent skill and comfort with technology-based productivity tools, including Microsoft Office, Google Applications and video conferencing programs (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet). • Ability to work independently and as part of an educational cohort. Physical Requirements: • Frequently lift up to 35 lbs. • Frequently required to sit, stand, communicate, and listen. • Have a valid driver’s license Compensation: We offer a competitive base pay and provide compensation for delivering professional development, session preparation, travel, and onboarding/internal training. The compensation for this position is $450/day and $50/hour for delivering virtual sessions, $25/hour for session preparation, $150/flat rate for overnight travel, and $15/hr for onboarding and internal training. Additional Information: • Locations: We are looking for Professional Development Specialists (Independent Contractors) in the United States. This position requires that Professional Development Specialists are permitted to work in the U.S., have residency in the U.S. and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license. • Time Commitment: Professional Development Specialists (Independent Contractors) are scheduled on an as-needed basis. Schedule is highly dependent on customer demand – professional development is usually scheduled with partners during normal school hours. Our peak times of the year include June through October, although we deliver professional development throughout the school year. • Travel: Travel is required and considered an essential function of the job. Travel includes overnight stays at hotels and transportation via car, plane, and/or public transportation, sometimes with minimal advance notice. All travel-related expenses for professional development delivery are initially paid in advance by the Professional Learning Specialists (e.g., lodging, daily meals). Reimbursements for these expenses, including mileage if driving your own car, will be processed in 2-3 weeks following submission of the expense reimbursement requests. • Equipment: This position requires reliable home internet that can support video calls on Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Google Meet and a quiet, professional place to deliver virtual professional development. Professional Development Specialists (Independent Contractors) must be able to supply personal equipment necessary to deliver professional development both virtually and onsite (e.g., laptop, microphone, portable speakers, and accessory HDMI adaptors).
