Full Description

Overview: The Technical Writer/Editor provides comprehensive communication support to CDC’s Training and Workforce Development Branch (TWDB) personnel, fulfilling responsibilities aligned with an optional task in Strategic Communications. This position centers on crafting and refining targeted communication strategies, developing accessible materials, and driving audience engagement for TWDB programs and learning initiatives. The Technical Writer/Editor collaborates closely with team members and stakeholders to ensure all communications are clear, consistent, and meet established standards for branding and accessibility. Responsibilities: Duties and Responsibilities • Strategic Communication Planning: Develop and maintain a comprehensive communication plan that identifies target audiences, establishes content delivery methods, selects appropriate communication channels, and defines outreach schedules and success metrics. • Partnership Engagement: Design and implement a strategic partnership engagement plan to facilitate collaboration with key stakeholders and external partners. • Content Development and Dissemination: Draft, edit, and publish branded, Section 508-compliant communication materials—such as newsletters, press releases, web copy, and promotional content—ensuring the use of plain language and adherence to clear communication principles for maximum accessibility and impact. • Editorial Oversight: Review, revise, and proofread all communications for accuracy, clarity, grammar, style, and consistency with organizational messaging and tone. Enforce editorial standards across all written materials. • Message Development: Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex technical information into concise, reader-friendly messaging tailored to different audiences. • Template and Style Guide Management: Develop, update, and manage templates and style guides to ensure standardized communication practices across the team and organization. • Campaign Monitoring and Assessment: Evaluate the effectiveness of communication campaigns, monitor audience engagement, and compile feedback and performance metrics. Recommend enhancements to communication strategies based on data-driven insights. • Facilitation of Collaboration: Support smooth communication and coordination between DLS/TWDB and internal/external partners to strengthen program engagement and knowledge sharing. • Training Support: Prepare and present clear written summaries of training activities and provide live demonstrations of eLearning and VR courses for internal and external audiences during meetings. • Status Updates and Reporting: Routinely update the status of communication action items, milestones, and deliverables. Produce periodic reports summarizing progress, challenges, and recommendations for continuous improvement. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Technical Writing, English, or a related discipline. • A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, and strategic communications. • Demonstrated knowledge of Section 508 compliance and plain language best practices. • Exceptional organizational, collaboration, and project management skills. • Experience supporting federal or state government agencies, particularly public-health focused agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
