Full Description

POSITION TITLE: Communication Specialist POSITION REPORTS TO: Executive Director POSITION LOCATION: Hybrid. Availability for weekly collaboration meetings and a yearly event is required. POSITION PURPOSE: This part-time position (averaging 20 hours per week) supports Outreach for Hope’s mission through content creation, social media engagement, email and newsletter campaigns, video editing, and general communications coordination. This position communicates OFH’s story to the ministry and mission partners who support OFH. ADDITIONAL DETAILS: • Compensation: Hourly, based on experience; this is a non-benefited position. • Start Date: To be determined TO APPLY: Send a cover letter, resume, and 2–3 examples of past communications work to: Chris@OutreachforHope.org. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (WITH ESTIMATED WEEKLY HOURS): • Engage in social media activity (Facebook, Instagram, X, etc.). 4 hrs/week • Create and send weekly emails regarding Outreach for Hope and its ministry partners. 3 hrs/week • Create a monthly church communicator email. 1 hr/week • Prepare bi-monthly newsletters (print & email versions). 2 hrs/week • Update and maintain the Outreach for Hope Website. 2 hr/week • Prepare graphics, signs, posters, and PowerPoint slide decks. 3 hrs/week • Edit videos & audio recordings of ministry and mission partners to tell the OFH story. 2 hrs/week • Maintain project tasks and updates in a shared tracking tool. 2 hrs/week • Submit quarterly press releases to news outlets. 1 hr/week NON-ROUTINE ASSIGNMENTS: • OFH Ride/Run/Walk (including attending the event to take photos and capture stories to post). • Assists in compiling special reports (e.g., Annual Report, End-of-Year Report, etc.). QUALIFICATIONS: • High school diploma or GED required. • Some college or communications coursework preferred • At least 2 years of experience in communications, public relations, or digital media • Strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills • Proficiency in Canva, email platforms (Mailchimp), social media tools, and basic video editing • Organized, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision • Understanding of Fundraising / Donor Development concepts is a plus • Familiarity with AI-assisted tools for editing and productivity • Comfortable working in a Christian, faith-based environment aligned with ELCA values REQUIRED SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES: • Graphic design: Technical abilities, knowledge of design principles, and soft skills to visually communicate ideas and solve problems across various media like print, web, and motion graphics. • Interpersonal skills: Skills for effective interpersonal interaction, including active listening, communication (both verbal and non-verbal), teamwork, leadership, empathy, and conflict resolution. • Decision-making: The employee should be able to reason logically, make sound decisions, and consider different perspectives. • Concentration: The role requires sustained attention and concentration, even with potential distractions or interruptions. • Problem-solving: The employee must be able to address complex problems and multitask effectively without losing efficiency or accuracy. • Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential for interacting with internal and external contacts. • Time management: The ability to work efficiently under time pressure and meet deadlines. WORK CONDITIONS: • Environment: The majority of work will be performed remotely, typically from the employee’s home office. The employee is responsible for creating and maintaining a productive, quiet, and safe workspace suitable for remote work. • Schedule: This position offers flexible scheduling, allowing the employee to set their own hours within a typical workweek. However, occasional availability is expected for virtual or in-person meetings during standard business hours when coordination with the staff is required. • Interactions: The role involves regular interaction with the Outreach for Hope staff, ministry partners, and other stakeholders via email, phone, virtual meetings, and weekly in-person events. Professional and timely communication is essential in all formats. • Confidentiality: Occasionally, handling confidential information is required. • Health/Safety: The employee is responsible for maintaining a safe, healthy, and ergonomic home work environment, including managing appropriate lighting, air quality, and workspace setup. Outreach for Hope does not assume responsibility for the safety of the remote workspace but expects best practices to be followed. WORK REQUIREMENTS: • Stationary/sedentary work: The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods, such as when working at a computer or on the phone. This may involve alternating between sitting and standing. • Computer and keyboard use: The role requires constant use of a computer, keyboard, and other office equipment, which involves repetitive hand and finger movements. • Movement: This role requires occasional movement around the office to access files, use office machinery, or attend meetings. This may also involve occasional bending, stooping, or reaching. • Lifting: The ability to lift and move common office objects, such as paper boxes or files, is sometimes required, typically up to 30 pounds. • Vision: Specific vision abilities are needed for computer work, including close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to perceive depth. • Hearing: Ability to exchange accurate information in person and over the phone, and to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
