Job Summary Oregon Episcopal School (OES) seeks a curious, creative, flexible, and student-centered .75 Seasonal Assistant Teacher to work collaboratively with teaching teams supporting cohorts in Pre-K, K/1, 2/3, or 4/5 during six weeks of summer programming. The Assistant Teacher works actively with assigned students, providing instruction and supervision of educational activities in partnership with lead educators, and may assume teacher responsibilities for short intervals as needed. Qualifications and Attributes The successful Assistant Teacher will: • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and initiative. Support the OES Summer Program Philosophy, Mission, and Core Values. General Class Flow: • 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM Support summer program students and educators through class support, lunch, snack, recess etc. • 1:30-2:30: Set up afternoon enrichment or workshop spaces. • 2:30-6PM: Facilitate and supervise afternoon enrichment studios and supervise assigned class groups during pickup times. • Learn more about our Summer Programs, including our philosophy, commitment to justice, and core values here. Philosophy and Role Overview The Summer Assistant Teacher models joy, curiosity, and inclusion through respectful support of the exploration of ideas, materials, and relationships. They support the nurturing of children's growth through playful engagement with the natural world, community-building activities, and creative expression. "We believe that every child is unique and capable, that each of them brings gifts to share and questions to explore. Our emergent program draws from the interests and theories of the children and is influenced by constructivist educators: teachers and thinkers like Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky and the educators of Reggio Emilia, Italy. In this tradition we believe that learning is an active process, and that learners who construct their own knowledge are most likely to remember their learning, make discoveries, and apply learning to new contexts. We are a community who believes in social constructivism, an understanding that human knowledge is often heightened and deepened by interaction with others." The summer assistant teacher will plan to support their assigned class spaces, students, and colleagues by working to align with the practices of the OES lower school, fostering an appreciation for lifelong learning through the safe utilization of both indoor and outdoor classroom spaces. Full collaboration with all colleagues is essential. Together, assistant teachers will support the ability for our teams to deliver a summer experience that: • Expands joyful, student-centered inquiries and emergent curiosities • Supports the social, emotional, and mental well-being of campers • Builds a strong, caring community Successful candidates are flexible, organized, open and constructive in communicating, and good-humored. They prioritize student and community safety, embrace feedback, and model the Summer at OES philosophy and core values. ??Strong candidates are both learners and knowers, bringing a collaborative spirit, technological fluency, and working always to seek ways to positively impact student campers whether it is their 1st or 20th day of the Summer season. They view campers as budding scholars, creators, and engaged human beings. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Support student learning in a variety of settings, including large group, small group, and individual instruction. Provide gentle, firm, and consistent support to foster a calm, inclusive, and engaging classroom or camp environment. Initiate group games and activities to build community and facilitate smooth transitions. Demonstrate patience, professionalism, and a collaborative spirit in interactions with students and colleagues. Assist lead teachers with preparation, documentation, and production work as needed. Attend supervisory and logistical duties such as lunch, recess, and dismissal. • Anticipate program needs and offer proactive assistance to support both teaching staff and students. Contribute to a positive learning environment that promotes inquiry, creativity, social-emotional growth, and a love of learning. SCHEDULE: 30 hours of work/week for the full 6 weeks of camp, June 22rd-July 31st, Scheduled days and hours are: M-F, 11:00 AM - 6 PM. Unless scheduled for field trips in advance or asked to cover duties in advance. Training Schedule: • 10-15 hrs mandatory asynchronous employee training which is online and self paced starting June 1st, 2026 and must be completed by June 14th, 2026 • Any new OES summer educator is required to attend in person employee training week of June 15th, 2026. • All summer faculty and staff are required to attend an in person orientation and set -up day on June 18th, 2026 from 8 AM - 4 PM outside of extenuating life circumstances. • There is an expectation of approximately 3 hours of after care hours prep work per camp week between June 1st and June 16th. This prep work will be paid on the payroll that is paid out on July 1st. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • 1-2 years of collaborative experience supervising children, youth, and/or teens in a childcare, enrichment, and/or educational setting. • Experience working in an early childhood educational setting • Strong background in current social emotional learning practices • Current First Aid and CPR training • Intercultural competence, ability to work with sensitivity and effectiveness with students, families, colleagues of diverse backgrounds and identities, demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion for people of all backgrounds and identities • Digital literacy; intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, Google Docs/Sheets and other web-based applications; database and cloud storage solutions, such as Google Drive, ability to troubleshoot common hardware and software issues, and good understanding of data privacy principles, particularly in safeguarding student data and personal information. • Video-conferencing experience, as appropriate to job duties; flexibility and willingness to learn as digital tools evolve • Ability to pass a criminal background check PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Knowledge of Reggio-inspired schools, social constructivist teaching and learning and the integration of the arts • Oregon Central Background Registry qualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Ability to learn and grow professionally throughout the summer while remaining flexible with the flow of summer programming. • Ability to facilitate and supervise a group of 15-30 camper students with support. • Interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate and maintain collegial relations with colleagues. • Excellent and open communication skills to interact with students, families, colleagues and supervisors. • To have fun, be respectful and responsible, and to try new things. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Camp is split between classroom, playground, and outdoor campus spaces across 59 acres. • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. • Mobility sufficient to move about the campus and to assure the safety of young children. • Ability to see, hear, and speak to interact with students, parents, and groups of individuals.
