Job Description General Functions: Animal Services is seeking a veterinary technician who will assist the veterinarians in ensuring shelter pets receive prompt and proper medical care and continued monitoring for individual health and welfare. Veterinary technicians handle a myriad of tasks and are essential to both the clinic team and overall shelter. The clinic strives to be flexible and treat everyone with respect while being helpful and cooperative in all duties and responsibilities. Representative Duties/Assignments: • Prepares the prep room prior to surgery, ensuring that the oxygen is on, vaccinations are drawn up, and diagnostic tests are ready. • Prepares the surgery room and reviews the surgery list. • Sedates and preps animals for surgery. • Monitors animals before, during, and after surgery to ensure the animal is recovering from anesthesia. • Cleans and sanitizes the clinic area and surgical instruments. • Medicates animals throughout the facility per veterinarian's instructions. Administers treatments and performs procedures per veterinarian's guidance. • Releases animals to their fosters/rescues/adopters; educates fosters/rescues/adopters on post-operative care, general husbandry, and relevant Division policies and procedures. • Performs data entry to document veterinary care, communications among staff and fosters/rescues/adopters, and any other pertinent information to ensure seamless quality of care and exceptional customer service. • Supports the mission and vision of Animal Services. • Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from High School or equivalent required. At least one year of experience interacting with the public, including a minimum of 6 months in a veterinary technician position. Must have the ability to safely and effectively restrain large dogs and cats. Schedule is 7:30am-6:30pm Sun-Wed the shift days may change but the hours are the same.
