Full Description

About OpenEd At OpenEd, we’re opening the world to every learner. With over 100,000 students served and growing rapidly, families trust us as a partner to the most precious thing in their lives, their children. Our vision: a future where education is no longer constrained by geography, rigid models, or outdated systems. Our mission: to give every student customized, world-class education and resources, empowering families and opening millions of doors for learners across the country. Our Culture (The Foundation of Everything We Do) Culture at OpenEd is intentional. It’s defined by what we promote—and what we tolerate. Our latest eNPS (employee net promoter score) of 77 placed OpenEd in the top 1% of technology companies. Our values aren't just words; they are non-negotiable principles that guide every decision: • Customer First – Obsessed with delivering value; we fight tirelessly for our learners and families. • Hard Choices, Easy Life – Face challenges directly, swiftly, and transparently. • I Did > We Should – Action over theory; bring experiments, not just opinions. • Learn Out Loud – Share your growth openly; feedback is a gift, ego is the enemy. • Prioritize Ruthlessly – Excellence in the few critical areas over mediocrity everywhere. • Fast AND World Class – Speed doesn’t compromise quality. • Strong Opinions, Weakly Held – Advocate passionately, adjust readily. • Make Others Famous – Elevate your colleagues, partners, and community. About the Role We’re hiring a Learning Operations Manager to be the embedded operational “ambassador” for our Learning Division—living day-to-day with Learning while reporting into Operations. You will watch how work actually gets done, spot bottlenecks and dependencies, and ship pragmatic fixes fast (no-code automations, lightweight tooling, process redesign), while also helping shape capacity & staffing models and segmentation for scale. This is a hands-on operator role where you’ll be both architect and builder. What You’ll Do • Capacity & Segmentation: Build and maintain a capacity model for the Learning Division (e.g., triggers by student count, assessments, partner count; new state vs. existing; new vs. veteran families). Propose segmentation that groups similar programs and clarifies staffing thresholds. • Process Design & Automation: Map critical workflows (e.g., curriculum provisioning, onboarding/rolling starts, learning logs, assessments) and redesign them for speed and reliability. • Ship quick wins using no-code/low-code (Airtable, Make/Zapier), scripts/SQL, and iPaaS patterns; document and hand off runbooks. • Metrics & Visibility (Dashboards as a Means, Not the End): Stand up dashboards that drive action: time-to-value (enrollment curriculum access & first meaningful use), launch readiness, throughput, backlog, SLA adherence. Instrument leading indicators that reduce tickets and handoffs. • Integration & Platform Ops: Partner with Ops/Product to connect data across tools (CRM/CDP, platform, vendor systems). Where engineering isn’t required, own iPaaS/no-code integrations end-to-end. • Change Leadership: Drive adoption: show the “why,” pilot, iterate, and land changes that stick—minimizing context switching and rework for teachers and staff. • Stakeholder Management: translate complex operational changes into clear, usable practices for non-technical staff • Bring a creative, non-traditional mindset; challenge “how it’s always been done.” 90-Day Outcomes (Immediate Impact) • Provisioning speedup & automations: Cut average time-to-value from enrollment to curriculum access by a defined baseline target (e.g., reduce by 30–50%). • Capacity clarity: First pass capacity/segmentation model with triggers and staffing thresholds, validated with Learning leadership. • Launch kit: Learning division launch playbook (roles, dependencies, SLAs, runbooks). Success Metrics (3–12 Months) • Time-to-Value: Significant reduction across key learner segments (e.g., diploma vs. non-diploma, K-8 vs. HS). • Automation Rate: % of high-volume steps automated; manual touches per student down materially. • Launch Reliability: On-time readiness for state/program launches (including mid-year) with fewer escalations. • Team Load: Measurable reduction in rework/context switching for Learning teams; burnout signals trending down. • Data Use: Dashboards routinely used in weekly/quarterly ops rituals to make decisions (not shelfware). Who You Are • Operator-Builder: You spot inefficiencies by observing the work and you ship fixes—fast. • No-Code + Data Fluent: Proficient with Airtable or similar databases; Make/Zapier (or comparable); understand SQL and wrangle CSVs/API (iPaaS experience may be beneficial). . • Dependency Thinker: Comfortable orchestrating across many roles, systems, and time-bound milestones (product-ops vibes). • Generalist > Education Specialist: We’re not seeking a traditional education ops background; you bring creative, first-principles solutions. • Systems Mindset: You love turning scrappy hacks into systems without waiting a year for “perfect.” • Clear Communicator: You can explain the change, show the gain, and win adoption. Nice-to-Haves: Exposure to SIS/CIS data patterns; platform/integration ops; high-volume, seasonal operational environments. This Role Will Excite You IF: • You crave meaningful, high-impact work and thrive in intensity and speed without compromising quality. • You like owning outcomes (not just recommendations). • You enjoy turning messy processes into smooth, resilient systems. Reporting Line: Reports to the Sr. Director of Operations; while highly embedded with Learning and in direct partnership with the Chief Academic Officer. Company Benefits: • Competitive salary of $80-$120k and 401k plan + company matching opportunities. • Comprehensive Health Benefits: Health insurance package including medical, dental, vision, life, critical illness, accident, STD/LTD, HSA, and FSA with dependent care. • Flexible Work Arrangement: We’re a fully remote workforce that emphasizes a healthy work-life balance by allowing some autonomy in work hours. • Generous Paid Time Off policy, enabling you to recharge, spend quality time with loved ones, and pursue personal interests outside of work. • Supportive Team Environment: Join a supportive and collaborative team environment where your contributions are valued, and teamwork is encouraged, fostering a culture of success and mutual respect.
