Overview: The Design Director, Brand + Packaging will lead a talented creative team, driving exceptional design work and ensuring the highest standards of creative excellence for clients across multiple brands. This role requires proven experience in a tier-1 or tier-2 creative agency environment, with the ability to manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously. The Design Director will oversee the creative process from concept to execution, ensuring brand consistency and alignment with client goals, while fostering team growth and maintaining profitability. Type: Direct hire, full time Schedule: While the role is remote, you will be required to travel to the HQ in the mid-west as needed Pay: $120,000 - $130,000 Must have under 12 years of experience total and you can be coming from a Sr. Designer title looking to grow to Director. Design Director, Brand + Packaging Duties: • Lead and own brand development across multiple clients, ensuring strategic and creative consistency. • Provide clear direction, mentorship, and feedback to designers, fostering growth and maintaining high-performance standards. • Collaborate cross-functionally with Strategy, Production, and Account Management to align project goals and optimize workflows. • Manage project profitability, budget allocation, and resource planning to ensure successful project delivery. • Develop great ideas and vision that translate into compelling brand stories, demonstrating a strong grasp of design systems and creative strategy. • Oversee the design process from concept to final delivery, ensuring adherence to creative standards and client objectives. • Direct photography art direction for food packaging, managing estimates, bookings, and post-production communication. • Act as the primary creative contact for key clients, building strong relationships and effectively presenting creative concepts. • Drive thought leadership by staying current with design trends, emerging technologies, and industry best practices. • Ensure quality control and brand consistency across all projects, meeting the agency’s high standards of craftsmanship. Design Director, Brand + Packaging Requirements: • Must have 7 to 12 (*no more than 12*) years of relevant experience ideally within a tier-1 or tier-2 creative agency environment or packaging design agency / shop, with a track record of managing multiple clients and delivering high-quality design solutions. • Must have an A+ portfolio with relevant samples in CPG and Packaging design with major brands, not SMBs, and primarily for food & beverage. • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant design tools. • Strong understanding of brand strategy, packaging design, and visual communication. • Experience in photography art direction, particularly for food packaging. • Excellent communication, presentation, and client management skills. • Proven ability to think strategically and translate client objectives into impactful design solutions. • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus). • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with a collaborative and team-oriented approach.
