Full Description

Job Posting: Deputy Director January 2026 One Fair Wage is an organization seeking to raise wages, enhance working conditions in the service sector and end all subminimum wages in the United States. With the Great Resignation, millions of workers are refusing to work for subminimum wages, employers are raising wages to recruit staff, and the political landscape to advance policy to raise wages has changed dramatically. Given the historic moment, One Fair Wage has launched an ambitious campaign to advance bills and ballot measures in multiple states nationwide to raise wages and end subminimum wages in the US - and through the process, engage millions of unlikely, low-wage worker voters politically. One Fair Wage is thus advancing policy, voter engagement, employer engagement, and narrative and culture shift activities to ultimately lift millions of service workers out of poverty nationwide and engage them in the political process that governs their lives. The Opportunity One Fair Wage is seeking a Deputy Director to play a senior leadership role in shaping and advancing this national campaign. The Deputy Director will work closely with the President and Chief of Staff to design campaign strategy, oversee several core departments, support and manage senior staff, and represent the organization publicly as a spokesperson. This is a highly senior, high-impact role with responsibility across strategy, people management, and execution. The Deputy Director will help ensure alignment across teams, translate strategy into clear plans, and support leaders and staff to do their best work in a fast-moving, evolving political environment. The ideal candidate is a strategic and collaborative leader with deep experience in campaigns and organizing, strong people-management skills, and a track record of building systems that support effective, sustainable work. This is a full-time position. Key Responsibilities • Campaign Strategy & Execution • Collaborate with the President and Chief of Staff to develop and refine national campaign strategy. • Supervise campaign managers and State Directors in key states where wage legislation or ballot measures are advancing. • Ensure campaigns are guided by clear, written plans with goals, timelines, and accountability. • Support cross-departmental collaboration to successfully execute campaign strategies. • Departmental Leadership & Supervision • Provide senior leadership and supervision across several departments, including policy, communications, and organizing. • Work with department leaders to set priorities, align workplans, and ensure teams have the tools, clarity, and support needed to succeed. • Build systems for supervision, communication, and accountability that strengthen staff performance and morale. • Coach and develop managers and senior staff, supporting their growth as leaders. • Organizing Strategy & Oversight • Collaborate with the President and Chief of Staff to guide the overall worker and employer organizing strategy. • Supervise the Worker Organizing Director and Employer Organizer. • Ensure organizing teams have clear metrics, workplans, and feedback loops, while maintaining flexibility to adapt as conditions change. • Policy, Communications & Spokesperson Role • Provide strategic leadership to policy and communications work in alignment with campaign goals. • Serve as a public spokesperson for One Fair Wage, representing the organization with clarity, credibility, and authenticity. • Support narrative and messaging strategies that elevate worker voices and build broad public support. • Organizational Leadership & Collaboration • Partner closely with senior leadership to strengthen coordination, decision-making, and problem-solving across the organization. • Help build a culture of trust, accountability, learning, and shared ownership. • Identify challenges early and work collaboratively to address them. Qualifications We recognize that strong candidates may come from a range of backgrounds. We encourage you to apply if many (but not necessarily all) of the following describe you: • Demonstrated experience developing and advancing campaign or advocacy strategy in complex, fast-moving environments. • Demonstrated experience in worker and/or community organizing and supervising organizers. • Strong track record of building systems, supervising people, and creating structures that help teams work effectively. • Proven ability to manage and coach staff, support leadership development, and retain strong teams. • Experience solving problems collaboratively, bringing people together across roles and perspectives to find practical solutions. • Highly organized and able to manage a high volume of work while prioritizing what matters most. • Resourceful and proactive; able to anticipate challenges, adapt plans, and follow through. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to learning from mistakes. • Resilient and steady under pressure, with the ability to navigate setbacks without losing momentum. • Communicates with honesty and authenticity; builds trust and strong relationships across lines of difference, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, class, ability, and immigration status. Experience • 10+ years of experience in worker and/or community organizing and organizing campaigns. • Significant experience in senior-level supervision, strategy development, and people management. Location, Travel & Work Expectations • This is a remote position, open to candidates living anywhere in the United States. • The Deputy Director will be part of a national team working across multiple time zones • Regular travel is expected for campaign activities, staff support, and public-facing work. • The pace of the work is dynamic, and while we value sustainability, we also expect flexibility and availability when campaign needs arise, including occasional evenings or weekends. Compensation & Benefits One Fair Wage offers a salary range of $121,000–$130,000, depending on experience, along with medical and dental benefits. You will join a highly capable, committed, and values-driven national team. Equal Opportunity Statement One Fair Wage is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity in our organization.
