You will be responsible for the visual identity of Obvious across various platforms, including the website and marketing campaigns. This involves designing graphics, creating motion work, and evolving the brand identity as the company scales.
The ideal candidate has exceptional craft, is fluent in motion design, and understands brand systems. Strong web design skills and the ability to collaborate effectively are also essential.
Brand Designer Obvious has built the world's most capable, collaborative AI agent—one that partners with knowledge workers to produce their best work. We're about to change how billions of people work and create. And we need someone who can make it look and feel as good as it works. What you'll do You'll be responsible for the visual identity of Obvious across every surface—from our website to our marketing campaigns to the brand system that guides everything we make. This means designing graphics, creating motion work, building web experiences, and evolving our brand identity as we scale. You'll work closely with marketing, product, and leadership to ensure every pixel reflects the quality of what we're building. Own and evolve the brand identity Maintain and expand our visual identity system: logo usage, typography, color, illustration style, iconography, and tone. You'll be the steward of the brand, ensuring consistency while pushing the work forward as the company grows. Design for marketing campaigns Create assets for campaigns across digital, social, email, paid media, and out-of-home. This includes static graphics, animations, video assets, and anything else a campaign needs to come to life. Your work will be seen by millions. Build motion and animation work Bring the brand to life through motion design—whether that's animated explainer videos, UI animations, social content, or campaign assets. You should be fluent in After Effects (or similar tools) and understand how motion can elevate storytelling. Design and build web experiences Design (and potentially build) pages for our marketing site, landing pages, and campaign microsites. You should understand web design principles, responsive design, and how to create experiences that are both beautiful and functional. Collaborate across the company Work closely with the marketing team on campaign creative, the product team on brand touchpoints, and leadership on high-visibility projects. You'll be a key voice in shaping how Obvious shows up in the world. What we're looking for You have exceptional craft Your work is polished, thoughtful, and detail-oriented. You know the difference between good and great, and you're not satisfied until it's great. You have a strong portfolio that demonstrates range, taste, and technical skill. You're fluent in motion design You're comfortable creating animations, motion graphics, and video assets. You understand timing, easing, and how to use motion to enhance (not distract from) the message. You understand brand systems You know how to build and maintain a cohesive visual identity across platforms and formats. You think in systems, not just one-off executions, and you understand how to balance consistency with flexibility. You can design for the web You have strong web design skills and understand how to create responsive, user-friendly experiences. Bonus points if you can code (HTML/CSS/JS), but it's not required—what matters is that you understand how design translates to the browser. You're a collaborator, not a lone wolf You work well with others, take feedback seriously, and can articulate your design decisions. You're comfortable presenting work, defending ideas, and iterating based on input from the team. You move fast without sacrificing quality You can ship quickly when needed, but you never let speed become an excuse for mediocre work. You know when to move fast and when to slow down and get it right. You have the portfolio to prove it Your work speaks for itself. You've designed brand identities, campaign assets, web experiences, or motion work that demonstrates both technical skill and creative thinking. What it's really like This isn't a role where you'll be tweaking templates or executing someone else's vision. You'll be building and evolving the visual identity of a company that's about to reshape how the world works. Your work will be highly visible, and the expectations are high. You'll work alongside a team that's built products at Netflix, Uber, Google, and Meta. You'll use Obvious daily (AI adoption is 100% here), and you'll be expected to produce work that reflects the same quality we're building into the product. The team is small, the pace is fast, and the opportunity is massive. This is a chance to be the first design hire on the marketing side, which means you'll have creative freedom and the responsibility to set a high bar. The not-so-secret sauce High agency, low ego You'll have the freedom to make calls and the responsibility to own outcomes. Feedback flows in all directions here. AI adoption isn't optional You'll use Obvious and other AI tools daily. Our goals demand exceptional effort and high leverage—AI is how we get there. Work in public We avoid private threads. Progress happens in shared spaces where the team can see, contribute, and learn. Take on hard things This isn't the place to coast.
