Director of School Safety Oxford Community Schools 2025-26 School Year Primary Function: A safety strategist with a deep understanding of the intersection of physical security, technology, and mental health, capable of leading through the unique challenges of a post-tragedy environment. Responsible for maintaining and enhancing the safety and security of all school buildings, while overseeing the district's comprehensive safety programs, procedures, and personnel. This role collaborates closely with district leadership and school administrators to develop and implement regulations, protocols, and emergency plans that promote safe and secure schools, and provides oversight of all district security staff and security systems. Qualifications - Education & Experience: • Master's degree or higher in school administration required. • School administrator certification required with additional safety leadership certifications anticipated. • Demonstrated evidence of trauma-informed leadership. • Prior experience as a head principal. • Extensive experience developing and leading school safety and security programs. • Strong knowledge of current educational issues and best practices, including school safety and student discipline. • Proficiency with Emergency Operations Plans (EOP), the Incident Command System (ICS), and district safety requirements and protocols. • Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary threat assessment teams, including mental health professionals and administrators, to identify and address concerning behaviors before escalation; NTAC model preferred. • Demonstrated knowledge and application of relevant laws and regulations, including ADA, Fire Code, Building Code, OSHA, drills, and fire alarm requirements. • Proven leadership in staff development and the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups. • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking communication skills. • Ability to collaborate effectively and build positive working relationships with administrators, staff, students, families, businesses, and the community. • The Board may consider alternative qualifications it deems appropriate and acceptable. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: • Safety Planning, Systems, and Compliance • Regularly review, update, and implement school safety plans to guide effective emergency response. • In collaboration with the Executive Director of School Safety, maintain and oversee the district's Multi-hazard Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) ensuring compliance with all requirements. • Serve as an active member of the district EOP team. • Conduct scheduled safety assessments and implement procedural updates as needed. • Coordinate services and response efforts with local, state, and federal law enforcement and emergency management agencies. • Support implementation of the district's OK2Say program and provide guidance and leadership to district administrators. • Collaborate with the Technology Department to manage and maintain district camera systems, including bus cameras. • Serve as a subject matter expert on district safety and security platforms and tools used across campuses. • Leadership and Personnel Management • Serve as the district's secondary liaison to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Oxford Village Police Department, the juvenile justice system, and other relevant agencies. • Maintain clear lines of accountability and command within the district's safety and security operations. • In collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and the Executive Director of School Safety, recruit, hire, and support the training of safety personnel as needed. • Supervise district-employed and contracted law enforcement and safety personnel, including School Resource Officers, Security Specialists, and contracted security staff. • Serve as co-chair of the District Safety Committee and the Parent Safety Subcommittee, alongside the Executive Director of School Safety. • Provide regular data-driven updates, reports, and educational services to families and other stakeholders. • Training and Program Management • Assist in the development and delivery of safety-related policies, procedures, and training. • Oversee staff training on key safety areas, including behavioral threat assessment and management, suicide risk assessment, de-escalation strategies, and recognition of warning signs of potential harm. • Implement comprehensive safety and security training for all staff prior to the start of each school year, including new staff orientation. • Ensure regular, ongoing training for all staff on safety procedures and emergency drills. • Provide training, guidance, and support to site-based administrators on safety and security matters. • Oversee safety and security plans for after-hours and non-school-day events and provide guidance and resources to OCS and contracted staff supporting these events. • District Safety Program Components • Maintain and oversee the district's comprehensive safety program, including: • Appropriate interior and exterior lighting, signage, and door access policies. • Building safety and access control systems. • Surveillance and monitoring systems. • Student and staff identification procedures. • Visitor registration and identification protocols. • Effective and efficient deployment of safety and security personnel. • Additional School Operations & Discipline • In collaboration with assistant superintendents and building principals, oversee discipline policies and procedures. • Maintain regular and predictable in-person attendance. • Actively support and advance the district's vision and mission. • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
